New Outlet Aglio Olio (S$10.10) Spaghetti with sliced chicken, baby spinach, sliced mushroom, and cherry tomato. One could opt for more spicy, more oil, or more garlic but I selected the original version. The pasta looked more like angel hair and tasted quite spicy. Came with cheese powder and chilli flakes by the side. I love the combination with lots of liao in it.

928 Laksa (Big) 928 Laksa is no new kid on the block, it’s been seeing a steady and long queue of customers for many years and is one of our favourite foods from Yishun. For $4.10 you get a generous bowl of laksa, filled with aromatic lemak laksa broth that’s hit with the right blend of spices that give you so so much nostalgia. We opted to switch out the crab stick and cockles and the aunty kindly gave us more beancurd puffs and egg. No doubt, it’s one of the BEST laksa’s in SG.

Pig Organ Soup [~$5] Apart from their BKT dishes, Fly Herbal Claypot Bak Kut Teh also serves pig organ soup. Honestly nothing impressive about this soup except that it is served in a claypot style. The soup base consist of faint taste of pepper and preserved veg. I suggest to stick to their BKT instead.

Claypot Ba Kut Teh [~$5.50] Newly open store that serves pretty value for money BKT. More of a herbal than peppery taste, just the way I like it. But I personally feel that the herbal taste could be more intense. For the price, you get 2 meaty ribs and a few other ingredients such as meat balls, button mushrooms, beancurd skin. No wonder there is always a long queue.

MUST GET XLB (6 for $4!!) There wasn’t much soup inside - maybe because the xlb tended to break? But the meat was so flavorful and soft like it didn’t go through a lot of processing. Skin was chewy too. Really so so worth it I wish I got more!

Heng Hwa Fried Bee Hoon ($6) This zi char stall does superb heng hwa cuisine! My bf and I were literally blown away by how authentic and tasty this fried bee hoon was. Unlike machine dried bee hoon, the sun-dried bee hoon is translucent, silky, fine, chewy but not brittle. These makes them absorb the cooking stock and seasonings better, resulting in a plate of extremely flavourful and umami beehoon. Plus points for the generous helping of ingredients too. 10/10 would recommend!

Xiao Long Bao ($4) At $4 for 6 pieces, these are probably the cheapest xiao long bao one can get in Singapore. While the soup isn't aplenty, the pork filling is well-seasoned and the skin is sufficiently pliable to give a chewy bite. Cheap and good!

Fried You Mian(炒幼面)($4) Ever since my secondary school friends ask me to try this Fried You Mian(炒幼面) during my secondary days, I have instantly fall in love with it. Had never heard before of fried you mian during that time so ya; give it a taste and I never forget it till now. Been about a decade plus, still visiting the place from time to time whenever free. . The noodle comes with onion egg, fishcake, meat, prawn, vegetable and spring onion. Spicy or not is up to you. For me, I like it spicy. The you mian(幼面) is fried till gooey, texture of the noodle soft enough to chew, hard enough to remain the springy effect and also it absorbs the chap(汁)(sauce) making it taste better. [Closed] Auntie Kim's Popiah Thanks to my mum's recommendation, this stall has just been added to my popiah gem collection. And don't worry if you don't like popiah because this coffee shop has tons of delicious food for you to feast on (e.g. the charsiew from the roasted delights stall and the claypot chicken rice). Good: • Tightly wrapped in a sturdy skin that doesn't break apart upon slicing or eating • Extremely fragrant peanuts and crispy bits • Turnips were cooked till tender and sweet • Fillings were generous • Affordable ($1.50/pc) Drawbacks: • Skin is not as chewy as Qiji's Verdict: 4.5/5

This franchise was certainly affected by the recent disruption to supply of fresh chickens, with their serving of chicken increasingly being thin sliced. . Still, be it poached or roasted, the highlight is their gravy, robust with meaty savoury salty sweet nutty flavour, infusing the tender chewy chicken meat. . The fluffy oily rice is properly decadent with grainy savoury sweet flavour, while the juicy sliced cucumbers and achar / pickled Peranakan salad carry vegetal sweet sour tangy zesty notes. . 925 Chicken Rice Some say that 925 Chicken Rice is the best chicken rice in Yishun. Do you agree? Well, read on to find out what I think. Only steamed chicken is served here. Sorry, roast chicken fans. It’s quite reasonably priced for what you get for $4 (1 person). You get to choose your chicken parts (breast, thigh, drumstick). I chose drumstick as they were still preparing the thigh meat at the time I went. And it’s served with a tiny serving of achar, a side soup (it’s translucent and not clear). The rice was reasonably fluffy and fragrant where it doesn’t clump together. But not exceptionally flavourful. The chicken itself was tender (it’s drumstick after all) but not as silky and juicy as what I would expect. I like the special sauce as it added a bit of flavour to the dish. I expected the chilli to wow me over. But it didn’t had the tangy kick or the garlicky punch. And doesn’t have the spiciness factor too. It didn’t taste the same as when I had it back at its sister outlet at Ang Mo Kio 722. Do the food at the Ang Mo Kio outlets taste better than the OG at Yishun? I feel that the standards have dropped slightly. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a good plate of chicken rice. But is it worth the detour? Probably not.
