Ayam Lemak Cili Padi, Lemak Turi & Keledek, Kangkung, Sambal Kacang Ikan Bilis

Beef Rendang, Sambal Sotong, Sambal Goreng, Lemak Turi & Keledek, Begedil

Located in 111 Somerset, I have had the nasi ambeng from Pu3 Restaurant previously at their last location and this time round we decided to go for their nasi padang instead. I got the Nasi Sambal Goreng Set which also comes with a well marinated bergedil, juicy fried chicken and serunding sprinkled on top of the rice. The accompanying sambal was mildly sweet and more towards the spicy side which made it very good to go with rice.

Really huge portion, well balanced dishes! Sambal belacan is amazing and we thought all the dishes were not too spicy.

Fav dishes from Pu3: ayam lemak chilli padi and tahu telur

After treating our Muslim friends to the “Dulang Ambeng Royal” from Pu3, I decided to order one for ourselves as well since they‘d raved about the food, and frankly, I have been eager to try this place since forever. Truly ecstatic to have done so because it was pure joy to eat. Partly because I have been missing my Nasi Padang for a while now.
Shown above is the platter for 2 pax ($36) and it‘s massive. I reckon up to 3 people could share it actually. Anyway, all around the big mound of rice is an assortment of tastiness. My favourites from this “ring of fire” (ok, I may be exaggerating because not every item was fiery 😆) were the Daging Rendang (love, love, love the ridiculously fragrant and tender beef), the Paru Goreng Rempah (spices-marinated cow’s lungs - the main reason I am crazy for Nasi Padang), the Ikan Kering (crispy dried salted fish) and the Ayam Lemak Cili Padi (its gravy is sublime on rice or simply to slurp). The Udang Sambal Belado Hijau was also delicious but I wish there was more of the sambal. Ditto the Terong Sambal Belado. But that’s just me nitpicking because frankly, I’d be happy to feast on this again in another week or two.

Delicious plate of Malay food that was beautifully plated and also satisfying to eat. Every ingredient was well-made and tasted like it was painstakingly and lovingly made at home by a mother.

🤔: Big portion, but food was just okay. Recommend the ayam lemak cili padi and begedil, but the rest of the sides in the dish were not that good. Sambal is so delicious I would totally order rice just to have the sambal with it.

As we noticed that this was on every single occupied table in the restaurant that day, we couldn’t help but order 2 servings for the 8 of us. Glad to report that it’s really flavourful. Break the fortress of fried egg and you’ll find the tofu within. Love how sweet and savoury the peanut sauce to cut through the slightly greasy tahu telur.

Nasi ambeng seems to have gained popularity for the past few years, but Pu3’s rendition is still my fave. Love how tender and fragrant the chicken is, and the opor, though looks pale in colour, is sufficiently rich without getting too overwhelming. I usually skip the sambal goreng in most Malay food stalls, but the one here is not too greasy nor jelat. It fed 8 pax just nice and the plus point: we can try a bit of everything and leave some room for dessert.

Feature Dulang Ambeng Royal for 4pax.
I enjoyed all except the lung(Paru). The lung a bit tough to chew ,but the rest are great.
It’s value for money. 💰$60.

Keep this spot in mind for group outings. Go straight for the Nasi Ambeng ($29.90 for 2pax, $50.80 for 4 pax) that features a mountain of rice surrounded on all sides by bergedils, milky chicken curry and a succulent, slightly spicy rendang. Burppler Jayson Yeo recommends heading over before 8pm as the food sells out pretty early.

Gather the squad for some proper feasting at this eatery tucked away in Somerset. The Nasi Ambeng ($7.90 for 1 pax, $29.90 for 2 pax, $50.80 for 4 pax) holds it own when it comes to flavour, balancing spice, sweetness, richness and saltiness in every bite! Picture a mountain of rice surrounded by sides that include bergidil that is crispy on the outside while pillowy soft on the inside, milky chicken curry, and succulent rendang chunks soaked in thick, slightly spicy sauce. Pro tip: kitchen closes at 8pm so come for lunch or an early dinner to avoid disappointment!

This was a huge dish full of flavours. The plate we ordered was meant for 2 pax ($29.90). But it could feed 3 of us just right. Would be a place to visit if you are going in a group.

Huge plate, portion for 2 but we shared it between 4 of us and couldn't even finish everything.

The nasi ambeng lived up to expectations, and more! It was the perfect combination of malay dishes - pedas (spicy), manis (sweet), lemak (rich) and masin (salty) - on one plate. Portion was huge too. Definetely bringing the rest of the family over next time.

Nasi Ambeng ($29.90 for 2pax)

This is definitely for one of those 'i can eat a cow' days. 😂 The ayam 🐓 lemak chilli padi and the crispy and fragrant begedil were the most awesome of that lot! Trust me, you WILL want to slather all that rice with loads of the curry and you WILL finish that mound of rice! 😋 I dare say this stall's begedil is the best I ever had. Still warm when served this ball of mashed potato is everything done the right way! Honourable mention goes to the beef 🐂 rendang. The beef was flavourful and nicely marinated without falling into the trap of being too dry 🙌🏼.

Do note that you should head over before 8pm as the food sells out pretty early. Bigger combo plate options available for larger groups!

Coming from SMU, I've walked past this place a gajillion times to get to Sunshine Plaza for some good eats. Little did I know there's this great little food coma inducing spot along the way!

Basically a giant sharing platter of all things great about Malay food, you'll find multiple options and combinations of chillies and a curry to slather all over everything. 🌶 The curry chicken was tender and fragrant and the rendang was leeeeemak! But best of all was the begedil! Crispy and soft, the freshly fried potato balls were the best things on that plate! You might want the change the bean sprout salad to something else though, was a little too raw tasting for us.😳

Try not to head down too late as they were closing the kitchen at around 8pm-ish when we arrived! 🙌

The dishes at the side was surprisingly good but good food comes with good price too😂. Good for gatherings. Oh and the sambal was just superb😋

Portion was huge and great. We had one big and one small for 6 person but we couldn't finish it. It's a little bit pricey but for a huge amount of food, I wouldn't mind paying!
