The ramen risotto looked fabulous but didn’t taste as exceptional as it looks. Umami flavours of the risotto got a bit jelak after a few mouthfuls. The mala pork (starters; not pictured) was lackluster - without its accompanying sauce, the pork is rather bland or “un-marinated”.

Service was slow despite <10 customers in the cafe.

I really like the softness of their pork belly, topped with savoury bubble. The risotto itself wasn’t really overwhelming in the taste by accompany with seaweed and egg yolk. $24+

They literally took the bubbly seriously with lots of bubbles on top of the drink. But after clearing the bubbles, you will be greet by beautiful creation of yuzu drink with some flower petals on top.

Definitely a refreshing drink for those who just finish their exercise at Kent Ridge Park. $8+

Not cheap...some cool items in the limited menu, e.g. cauliflower fritters

A little bit out of the way, smaller than expected, service wasn't great, good but limited menu and expensive.
Coffee was outstanding.
Cannot make reservations on Sundays.

No doubt the dishes at Paddy Hills are slightly on the pricey side for a cafe, but this Ma La Pork makes a really good sharing side. Fried pork shoulder chunks of a firm bite, paired with salted pickled mustard that cuts grease. Hidden in the bowl were also some fragrant fried garlic that you would possibly mistake as the pork chunks! And not forgetting the elements of Mala, roasted peanuts and dried chili. The Mala sauce was quite memorable, looked just like any chili sauce but it was unexpectedly numbing.

Had pretty high hopes for this burger, only to be disappointed. Sandwiched between the squid ink buns, the whole deep-fried soft shell crab was quite reasonable in size though ordinary tasting. But the prawn patty was appalling; not only was it frozen with an unwelcoming smell, it was also made with surimi, of mushy texture. Something that doesn’t justify its price. Probably the only saviour in the burger was the green mango, which helped to mask the unwanted smell and texture of the prawn patty partially with its crunchiness and green, floral flavours. Served along with curly fries and squid ink aioli.

Thick and creamy foam - just the way how I like my cappuccino.

A nice place to chill and relax. A pretty quiet cafe, even on weekends.
Tried their cappuccinos $5.50 per cup.
Coffee was smooth and well-balanced.
Not as acidic as most coffees out there. It is def one of my go to Cafe when I'm in the area. :)

So creamy and smooth! I think this particular hot chocolate is made by pouring hot milk on chocolate to melt the chocolate into a creamy drink. There’re some specks of chocolate left on the sides of the cups which are nice. This definitely isn’t the most chocolatey or bitter chocolate beverage, but it’s a comforting milk chocolate drink overall that’s a good accompaniment to a meal at Paddy Hills as it won’t overpower your tastebuds so you can enjoy the food too.

Originally thought this would be added on directly on our egg frittata dish, so we were amused when these four sausages were served on a separate dish. Guess they’re very particular how their mains are presented.

For $7, these four sausages (about the size of an index finger) looked quite measly and sad on their own plate. Thankfully, they tasted good. They weren’t too salty, and the maple flavour was subtle, but did well to balance the savoury pork with a little sweetness. Probably wouldn’t order this again because it’s pricey, but I guess it would’ve been a nice part of the big breakfast main.

This vegetarian main comes with an egg frittata packed with onions and spinach. It’s plated with some pickled cherry tomatoes, roasted cherry tomatoes, sourdough and pesto.

Overall the presentation of the dish is pretty, with the pops of colours from the red and yellow cherry tomatoes, but gosh how sour these pickled tomatoes were!! I immediately recoil thinking about my experience of unsuspectingly eating one pickled cherry tomato when I was expecting a sweet burst of juice but got a mouthful of pucker-inducing sourness. I think the dish would’ve been better without those. The roasted cherry tomatoes were nice though so it would’ve made more sense to just use roasted tomatoes instead.

As for the sourdough, instead of serving a slice of bread, Paddy Hills cuts them up into small pieces and toasts them to a crisp. I’m not a fan. I would’ve preferred a piece of dense and spongey European bread to chew on rather than crunching my way through the toasted bread.

The egg frittata itself was quite nice. The ends crisped up slightly so they were a nice contrast against the eggy interior. The frittata was moist inside, which is a plus. I think this is another case of trying to be innovative but trying too hard, as the frittata was nice but these extras in the pickled cherry tomatoes and crunchy sourdough bits missed the mark and left me unsatisfied with the dish.

This sharing side of cauliflower comes with ‘s’ sauce, kimchi and nori. It’s an interesting dish for sure, since cauliflower fritters seem to be making an appearance in more cafe menus, yet this is the first I’ve seen with a dollop of kimchi on top.

The cauliflower florets are nicely breaded and fried. They aren’t overly oily, and the layer of batter is so thin, you won’t feel like you’re getting an extra load of carbs on carbs. Honestly, the kimchi was interesting, but didn’t seem to elevate the dish as the cauliflower fritters could have done without the kimchi. The sauce tasted like a thick sesame soy sauce and imparted a sweet and salty flavour which I enjoyed with the fritters, but some at the table didn’t enjoy it. Maybe this is a case of trying too hard to be creative, because the cauliflower fritters are a solid offering on their own.

The coffee blend at Paddy Hills is quite mild, with a light nutty finish. If you prefer something milkier and not strong on caffeine, a classic latte here would make a good choice.

Light and easy on the palate, this cappuccino doesn’t hit you with any extreme flavours. It’s got mellow nutty notes which are nicely blended with the milk. Pretty nice choice to go along with the food

This is what dessert would look like if a pancake and muffin had a baby. The Berry Berry is a gorgeously plated dessert which, at first glance, appears to be two crisp golden pancakes topped with flower petals, berries, berry sauce, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, two cubes of vanilla ice cream and crushed Oreo. It’s a feast for the eyes, and the tongue, plus stomach.

Upon cutting into the pancake, we realised it was actually thick, and the top was crusty and crispy while the interior was light and fluffy. It was buttery and slightly savoury, which the sweet berry compote and tart fruits complemented well. I loved the nutty crunch from the seeds, and the two small cubes of ice cream were a nice touch that proved less is more. This dessert was so delightful, it would have been easy to devour the whole thing singlehandedly had we not agreed to share beforehand. I would say this is a MUST ORDER at Paddy Hills and is definitely worth making the trip down here for despite its inaccessible location. I’ll be back for this!

Taste: 6/10
Portion: 8/10
Will I order again: NOPE

Berry berry is super berry! A delightful dessert to have with some bitter black coffee!

Had their Big Breakfast today and the bacon chop is incredibly chewy, I couldn’t even cut it into small pieces 😩😩😩

And while they’ve since broken away from 1), traces of 2) still lingers like a envious younger sibling.

Christened as a Ramen Risotto ($24), this comes with pork belly, pickled black fungus, a runny quail egg, soy foam and tonkotsu snow(?????). While it does feel like a Creative concept on paper, the execution was.. pretty average with the each ingredient seemingly wanting to stand out instead of complementing each other.

Also, don’t get me started on their flippant service.🙄
