Coconut Tart

Headed all the way down to the original Telok Blangah outlet since a friend wanted to try their bakes out. An ode to the nostalgic Coconut Tart in terms of aesthetics, the one here comes with a modern twist for the flavour. Instead of coming with a crusty filling within, the one here comes filled with bananas and a hint of Kaya for a sweet, Pandan touch with the same, old-school coconut flavour we are fond with all with a crusty tart base that felt pretty fresh overall.

Out Of The Cake Box has become one of my favourite bakeries in Singapore, and it's not hard to see why. Nowhere else will you hear unique orders for a White Rabbit Cake ($6.50) or to dabao a Durian cake in a bag - Bao Jiak ($6.50). My favourite - White Rabbit - is a matcha lava cake dripping with creamy White Rabbit Candy sauce, which tasted suspiciously similar to condensed milk. The cake itself is strong in matcha flavour without being overwhelmingly bitter, and had a soft, spongy texture that contrasted well with its crust. See what else we ordered in the full article!

Rose Lychee

This is so fragrant, moist and light! It was gone in seconds! Favorite of all is the rose lychee. All so dainty!

We had 3 cakes and a tart. The rose lychee, takoh belle, Yuzu jasmine cakes and the millionaire tart!

Chendol Fudge - Gula Melaka sponge cake is layered alternately with coconut-Gula Melaka fudge, with classic Chendol fillings such as red bean and strips of green rice flour jellies.

Nothing compares to a handmade confection picked up at a homey bakery, better yet, while you're doing good at the same time. As part of giving back to the community, youths with disabilities from Rainbow Centre go on attachment with Out of the Cake Box, who help to nurture their talents in baking. Freshly baked daily, you should order the Takoh Belle ($50 for whole cake /$6.50 per slice). It's a delectable baked cheesecake that is infused with fresh pandan extract, topped with a frothy sweet corn mousse and a sturdy coconut custard. There's a lot going on, but thankfully the flavours are well-balanced, never overwhelming and it all comes together beautifully — just be sure to get every layer of the cake in a forkful! Pro tip: Keep your eyes peeled for their elusive Mango Sticky Rice ($48.80 for whole cake / $6 per slice) that is only available when Thai honey mangoes are in season!

Pandan Cheesecake

Stopped by this small, humble bakery at Telok Blangah for some cakes over the weekend and boy, they were good! I had a slice of the Pandan Cheesecake (highly recommended!) and the Jasmine Yuzu Cheesecake. Love how the layers are all distinctly flavourful on their own and yet they come together so beautifully! Must try!

Mango Sticky Rice Cake [$6].

Generous amount of mango toppings and coconut glutinous rice sandwiched between light mango spongecake, managed to get this fusion cake with an Asian twist while mango is still in season.

Chix Skin Pineapple Tart is my top favorite of sweet savoury combination, using crushed deep fried chicken skin and mixed into the all-butter pastry that enrobes the pineapple filling. Addictively yummy! You can still check them out at their pop up stall located at ION Orchard's Lunar New Year Festive Market at the Basement 4 Event Hall from now til 6th Feb.
