More Reviews of good food at Otto's Deli Fresh

All my fav ingredients in one dish - mixed mushrooms, truffle cream sauce, spaghetti and parmesan cheese! Not to forget the runny egg on top. The sauce was a little too much and heavy, hence making it jelak towards the end. But the mushrooms were cooked well, and the pasta was of the perfect al dente texture.

I really liked the onsen egg in the pasta dish, but the overall dish was slightly too creamy for my taste.

Pretty average food in my opinion!

A comfort food dish served in a relaxed, quiet environment. With al dente linguine tossed heavily in olive oil, I pretty much enjoyed how fragrant this aglio olió style pasta was, except that they could probably reduce the amount of olive oil so that the pasta wouldn’t have been coated in oil. Nevertheless, the chopped garlic and chili made up for it along with super plump fresh prawns. Slightly pricey but worthwhile with the entertainer app. Do note that there’s a specific menu if you are using the app.

Don’t estimate this place because of its appellation (‘deli’) or appearance - a doorless eatery on top of an escalator. Not only it’s a proper restaurant with several chefs in the kitchen, but it’s the junior branch of the famous Otto Ristorante by Maxwell’s Chambers. The revamped menu now is more ‘adult’ than before. Pastas are good, perhaps a bit under salted but maybe that’s in line with being in the Raffles Health building. Reasonably-priced wines, although not many wines by the glass on offer. Charming service staff - could be a bit more pro-active though. No need to win the lotto to eat at Otto’s.

Grilled Aust Grain Feb Angus Beef Rib Eye - $34
·
Weighing at 180gm, the angus beef steak is cook to your prefers doneness. I requested for medium, which was was quite nicely done. The steak is grilled so the external still have a slight smokey flavour. Steak is of a nice texture, lightly seasoned by salt and pepper, maintains the steak’s original flavour. Comes with hand cut fries & mesclun salad. Their seasonal potato soup with salted pork taste rather good, cost $9.90, and great for sharing

While the restaurant was having a steak night special menu, I was still attracted by this S$34.90 ribeye steak that was on the regular menu. True enough, the dinner was marvellous because the 180g of beef was juicy and tender, yet grilled sufficiently to give that classic smoky and inviting taste. The hand-cut fries (which appeared more like wedges) were chunky and very lightly seasoned. If the meats had been disappointing, the potatoes might have stolen the show.

And since I was already here, my side-note about OTF was that their soup of the day was so good that I could have the whole bowl to myself, even though the serving was relatively comfortable for two pax.

Pretty unique pasta dish, haven't seen another restaurant serve something similar. Or am i just sheltered? Haha. Anyway this was pretty nice. Having a decent serving with my plate of carbs is always appreciated.

Ticking off all boxes of a good steak - a perfect medium, tender and moist. And the fries are so good! With a bit of skin intentionally left on it and fried to a golden brown, so crispy yet moist on the inside! Sooo good 😋🍟🥩

The Angus beef patty was a little dry and lacked a succulent bite. But the delicious hatcho miso sauce came in generous quantities and gave each bite the wetness it deserved. The unexpected highlight was the caramelised onions – treacle-textured with a sweetness that fell in harmony with the miso sauce.

Don’t buy it, it’s not worth your money at all. The whipped cream is gimmicky, saccharine and altogether unappetising. Serving the drink with nuts and whipped cream is perplexing to say the least: why obscure the chocolate with random and irrelevant additions?! I never want to drink something like that again.

The stroganoff was wonderful – herbaceous, velvety and creamy, but not sickeningly so. We tasted white wine (my favourite sauce base!) and paprika. Pasta was generously coated in sauce, served with a dollop of smetana and bedecked with tender, medium-rare beef strips. It’s perfect for you if you’re into cream-based pastas but hate it when chefs take the richness of the cream too far.

💭 Try it a few times!

This plate was loaded with medium rare beef chunks and fresh mushrooms. A dollop of sour cream added on to creaminess of the dish. Pasta was slightly overcooked, but overall a good dish, and I wiped put clean. However, the star of the table was the starters, button mushroom soup (I regret there’s no picture, sorry), it was rich, earthy and comforting. Thumbs up, must try! Will be back again!

Burnt Banana Waffle (S$12++)
Smoky grilled banana over buttermilk waffle, topped with peanut butter gelato and a freeze-dried banana
Available at @OttosDeliFresh in @RafflesHollandV
The waffle was light and cripy although I would prefer it to be less dense and more airy. The peanut butter gelato was creamy without too sweet, while the banana was so soft and sweet.

Burnt banana waffle-crisp fluffy, the best kind of waffles. Pb gelato isnt too sweet, combines well with that over ripe sweetness from burnt banana ($12) 4.25/5

Ice chocolate-the drink itself isnt too sweet, perhaps too much water, but the chocolate flavor is actually really good, one of the dark kind. (9.5)

Standard ambiance and okay service. Quick waiting time for the food.

Beef stroganoff-never actually eat any stroganoff before. Pasta is a bit overcooked, might be problem for those al dente eaters, i dont mind. Sauce was pretty good, beef was tender. ($18.5) 4/5

I'm not usually one to order pasta but this was really good! This pasta dish is loaded with beef and mushrooms, and has a surprising crunch from the cornichon. The sour cream also adds a creaminess to the pasta. So hearty! 🤤

Herb crusted pan seared barramundi, that is delightfully moist, and highly flavourful (although some may argued that it's tad salty). Paired with roasted baby potatoes, which I felt almost outshine the barramundi, and a side of greens. It's a definitely a good lunch set.

Many plans to eat pasta but, this was on the Daily Specials board. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It said for 2-3 but, there were just 2 of us and we had it as our main (though I imagine a very hungry person could clean this off easily). This platter included a very tasty 180g beef hangar, 160g crispy skinned pan fried barramundi, a roast beef sausage and 1/2 a spring chicken. These also came with sautéed veggies and a beautiful peppery mash. My faves were the barramundi (so well cooked with a little saltiness that I like with fish) and the beef hangar. Though it was slightly more done than I would have it, it was so nicely prepared and tasted great.

Such a nice quiet spot, decently priced menu and not crowded on a week night. I need to come back to try the beef fettuccine as originally planned though.
