If you are a tonkatsu lover, check out this place @onkei.tonkatsu!

Featured here are the following items:
-Mentaiko Rosu-katsu Pork Loin Set ($19.90++)
-Miso Rosu-Katsu Pork Loin Set ($19.90++)
-Mentai Tamago ($5.90++)
-Fried Gyoza ($6.90++ for 5 pieces)
-Canned Drinks Qoo White Grape ($2.50++)

The tonkatsu set comes with rice (white or multi grain rice) and soup! The soup is also very special! It is tonkatsu broth simmered with japanese pork, konnyaku, aburage, white and red carrot for over 12 hours! There is mushroom, and very soft white and red carrots in it for serving too! Super comforting hearty bowl of hot soup! The rice and soup is free flow refillable too! The tonkatsu was fried with freshly made japanese breadcrumbs for extra crunchiness, and very meaty juicy on the inside! It was not overly oily as well, as the tonkatsu is fried in clean vegetable oil. The tonkatsu set comes with refreshing japanese pickles, and a huge portion of crunchy shredded cabbages. If you will like to try something uniqe, check out their mentaiko and miso pork loin set! I highly recommend both the mentai tamago and fried gyozas for sides!

Tonkatsu was crispy and delicious - you can choose between pork loin, fish, or chicken. Each person can pick something different so you donโ€™t have to get two of the same meats. The set also comes with 2 pieces of tori karaage, 2 pieces of fried oysters, as well as 2 bowls of rice and soup. There were also pickles and shredded vegetables on the side to help balance out the saltiness of the fried foods.

It was a lot of food, and Iโ€™m glad they allowed us to pack the extras because we couldnโ€™t finish all of it! Standard of food was good, standard restaurant pricing after GST but reasonable considering the amount of food there was.

Staff were friendly and helpful, which made the dining experience positive. We visited on a weekend afternoon, and it was fairly busy, though there were still some vacancies here and there.

Finally we ordered a side of ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—š๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‡๐—ฎ (5 pcs, $6.90). This is a dish that practically every Japanese restaurant offers, so we didn't have any expectations. They proved to be pretty good, the lightly crispy skin complementing the succulent pork nicely. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at @onkei.tonkatsu, which is definitely worth a visit.

I also loved the ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ข๐˜†๐˜€๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€. Captivatingly crispy outside yet soft and juicy inside, they were extraordinary. The ๐—ง๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ถ ๐—ž๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฒ, though, were kind of average and quite forgettable. I saw in the menu that the Fried Oyster costs $4.90 per pc while the Tori Karaage costs $4.50 for 3 pcs. If I didn't have the Burpple deal, I know which one I'd be ordering.

Onkei Tonkatsu is known for its wide range of tonkatsu dishes, and with a 1-for-1 Burpple Beyond Set, visiting was a no brainer. Each set ($39.90 for two sets with the deal) came with a generous serving of pork, fish or chicken katsu (we picked pork and chicken), one ebi (prawn) katsu, one Tori Karaage, one Fried Oyster, one bowl of rice and a bowl of soup.ย

The stars were undoubtedly the katsu items. Coated with panko crumbs and masterfully deep fried, the ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ ๐—ž๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜€๐˜‚, ๐—–๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ž๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜€๐˜‚ and ๐—˜๐—ฏ๐—ถ ๐—ž๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜€๐˜‚ were stunningly scrumptious. Despite being deep fried, the meats were not dry and retained their natural juices. We polished them off in no time and were left craving for more.

Elected not to use the burpple deal as we felt it was too much food. Had the Miso Rosu-Katsu Set ($19.90+) and the Chicken Katsu Set ($16.90+).

We were wowed by the generous portions of the sets, with the crisp battered meats stealing the limelight. Though they could be more tender and moist, the accompanying sauces made it better. Don't leave your Katsu for too long though, the Miso sauce for the Miso set started to 'dry up' after a while and made the batter soggy. While not as good as other Katsu specialty places, this was a good no-frills meal with substantial portions.

Do ask for your soup and shredded cabbages to be refilled! The tonjiru soup in particular was chock full of carrots, daikons, pork and plenty other ingredients.
