I always have a soft spot for beet root and so I found it easy to pick this dish from the options available. While I wished for more smokiness from the beets, I enjoyed the pairing of the beets with onion confit and watercress coulis. Even with Saint-Maurre cheese, this dish was still easy on the palate — a great starter especially before a heavy mains.
Reading the menu, I thought this dessert would come in an overrated form of deconstructed black forest. Yet, it was a simple chocolate cake topped with vanilla ice cream and cherry. The whipped ganache looked so glossy that I could see my reflection on it! There were more stewed cherries inside the cake and for once, cherries worked for me because these cherries didn't possess the typically overwhelming taste. This could hardly go wrong but it didn't leave much impression either.
I had a very high expectation on this dish — Le Bœuf and thus, to my dismay, it fell short. Actually, there was only one bummer in this dish: the 'main cast' US Prime Striploin, which turned out to be really gamey and rather inconsistent in texture. Out of the three cuts, only one was nicely done to medium rare despite the perfectly looking marbling on the surface of all the three cuts. This, perhaps, had to do with the thick cut of the beef, making it harder to control the doneness during cooking. That aside, I fell in love with the potato and leek mille feuille topped with blended leeks. The thin layers of potato and leeks were skillfully executed, with a good contrast of starchy and sweet flavour. The onion fondant, besides being aesthtetically pleasing, gave a distinct nuance to the whole dish. It definitely had the potential to be the best dish of the set lunch meal.
This was our favourite dish of the night 😍 the amberjack was super fatty and juicy, and expertly grilled with nicely charred and crispy skin. Clams were very fresh as well. The little crispy ball of rice and chestnut was also delicious.
Solid piece of beef. What I really liked was the potato - firm and full of flavour - and the slight sweetness provided by the caramelized fruit (grape?).
Super fresh and juicy, with a nice chargrilled taste. But sadly a tad too generous with the salt.
