Despite my initial skepticism after passing through the dimly-lit passageway and all the almost Chinese altar-esque setups involving various rabbit plush and figurines, I was unequivocally floored by the sheer magnificence of the various chou pastry - they were brilliantly crisp with a smoky baked finish, and my knife cut cleanly through the pastry without it ever losing its composure. The custard - with flavours ranging from the succulently wet watermelon to the controversially savoury basil strawberry - was reliably creamy and consistent, and some puffs hid a fruity secret within. The French pastry chef is Michelin restaurant-trained, and the pastries on offer are pretty darn amazing coming from what might easily be construed as being yet another quirky Japanese themed cafe.
