Myung Ga III 명가 (Beauty World)

I am probably not the only one confused but there is actually not one but two Korean restaurants by the name of "Myung Ga" in the Bukit Timah area. I usually frequent Myung Ga II at Bukit Timah Plaza but it was closed the night I visited so I decided to check out Myung Ga III at Beauty World instead.

According to the wait staff, Myung Ga II and III are separate restaurants whose owners are friends. They aren't related but have similar (if not the same) menu.

The good is rather similar. The tonkatsu is huuuuuuge as with all Korean style tonkatsus with a nice sweet sauce. I ordered a takeaway which was probably why the pork cutlet came in pieces instead of one huge slab. The meat was well marinated and the crust shattering crisp. I do prefer Myung Ga II's version because it was a little more tender and juicy but it might just be because I had their tonkatsu fresh instead of sitting in a box for the 45 minutes drive home.

I do want to know though... Is there a Myung Ga I?!?

Soft tofu stew that comes with seafood or kimchi! Came with a good amount of seafood ingredients here like mussels, squid and a scallop. The default spice level is manageable, and was comforting to have. Rice is a separate add on.

Constantly craving for something soupy and hot during these few rainy days! Found ourselves at Beauty World Centre’s food centre - if you’re familiar, you’d know there’s loads of Korean options around here.

We’re big fans of Myung Ga II that’s at Bukit Timah Plaza, so we tried out Myung Ga III here - ordered their Seafood Sunbudu Jjigae + Seafood Jjajangmyeon. This was decent, while the flavour wasn’t mind blowing, we did appreciate how the jjajangmyeon didn’t get too heavy like how some would.

To be fair, they seem to specialise in BBQ here at III and we didn’t get to try that, but otherwise, we much prefer II for the flavours and variety of ban chan!

Hopped into this Korean restaurant at Beauty World Centre (#04-04) since I was in the area, and tried Spicy Cold Buckwheat Noodles or “Bibim Naengmyeon” ($15) for the first time. Well, I liked it!
A bottle of vinegar was given to me to squirt how much I wanted into the massive bowl of very chewy noodles which came with half a hard-boiled egg, pickled radish, cucumber, a little bit of beef and a whole lot of the spicy, sweet and tangy paste (I found it only mildly spicy personally). There were small chunks of ice that helped keep the noodles cold all the way. I didn’t manage to finish all of it though - the portion was just too huge 😅

Their jajangmyeon ($29) is a must to order and it can easily feed 3-4 pax even tho they stated for 2 pax. We also ordered the extra large pork cutlet ($15) which is larger than the palm size. Do expect long queues and crowd especially during dinner time. Staff were friendly and attentive as well.

My friend introduced this restaurant to me and we ordered Haemul Jengban Jajan ($29). When the food came, I was shocked to see the portion. It was so huge. This is my first time having Jajangmyeon so I was curious how it taste like.

The taste is like Zi chat hokkien mee but instead of being in a broth kind. It is those dry type with the sauce stick with the noodle. The noodle is chewy and they were generous in the amount of ingredients inside. They also provide free flow side dish too such as kimchi and beancurd. Overall it is a good meal and both of us enjoyed it.
