Guide Features of Good Food at Mitzo

On weekends and public holidays, this contemporary restaurant in the heart of Orchard serves up a decadent dim sum brunch ($68). The menu offers unlimited servings of over 40 selections of dim sum along with wok and seafood dishes — knock yourself out with items ranging from the classic (think shrimp dumplings and char siew buns) to the creative, like escargot cheese puffs and black pepper cod fish dumplings. Be sure not to miss Mitzo's much loved special barbecue pork. It comes perfectly charred with a slightly crystallised exterior and tender meat that's just the right amount of lean and fat... yum! End your meal with a delightful Hokkaido milk cheese tart. Pro tip: If you intend to make an afternoon of this, top up $60 per person for free flow of cocktails, champagne, wines and beer.

Mitzo's trendy interiors make it a perfect spot for a dim sum lunch date with a girlfriend, but when night falls, it exudes a supper club vibe made for cosying up to your date. As portion sizes are modest, you can enjoy a good variety of dishes among two. Prime your palate with the Steamed Dim Sum Platter ($28), which comes with a pair each of three different dumplings, all elegant yet balanced in flavour. Move right on to the much raved about Mitzo Special Barbecue Pork ($15), which has won many over with its perfectly charred exterior and smoky, tender meat, followed by the Black Truffle Crispy Roast Duck ($38), an impressive marriage of crisp, truffle-scented skin and moist meat. The Braised Vermicelli with Scallops, Prawns and Cod Fish ($28) is great if you need your carbs, or else, go for the Deep-fried Prawn Coated with Creamy Lemon Sauce ($32) — its zesty sauce will offer your palate some respite from all the meat. Sweeten the meal with the Baileys-spiked Chilled Avocado Milkshake with Fried Sesame Dumpling ($12) before you move on to the Cocktail Atelier for a nightcap. Stay in theme with an Asian-inspired drink like the Mitzo High Tea ($24), which reinterprets Long Island Tea with Pu’er tea and goji berries.

Ambience: Dress to impress
Price: Avg $150 per couple, without drinks

Mitzo is a unique dining concept that pushes the boundaries of traditional Cantonese cuisine (think elevated, contemporary dim sum dishes) and combines it with an artisanal cocktail programme. Conveniently located in Grand Park Orchard Hotel, this is where you should head to for special occasions. The grub at Mitzo is outstanding, but the star of the show is the Chilled Avocado Milkshake with Fried Sesame Dumpling ($10). They elevate the traditional sesame dumpling with a molten chocolate Baileys-spiked filling, sure to please those who have a thing for spiked desserts and leave you wanting more.
