McDonald's (The Metropolis)

Saw a few posts on McDonald’s most recent limited time-only offering from its dessert kiosks and was curious enough to actually give it a try when we did walk past their outlet at The Metropolis. Aside from the introduction of the Ovaltine McFlurry, the Banana Pie also makes a comeback as well for a limited time.

For those who have yet to try Ovaltine, think Ovaltine as a malt drink that comes in between that of Milo and Horlicks; the Ovaltine McFlurry here features Ovaltine powder and crumbles swirled into the vanilla ice-cream base as per the usual Oreo McFlurry. Unlike the Yubari Melon soft-serve, McDonald’s is not reinventing the wheel with this one; expect that familiar note of malty and chocolatey goodness that is churned into their standard ice-cream offering — one that carries a cocoa-like starting note, and ends off with a Horlicks-like finish; pretty pleasant for a fast food offering which I personally prefer over the Kit Kat McFlurry, though honestly nothing too much to shout about here given the expected flavour profile.

Sesame and seaweed shaker fries - to be honest, I was intrigued yet doubtful at the same time.. but hurray I have a new fave snack to go to for the next few weeks or months it’s available.

The pleasure of shaking fries in the bag to coat it evenly with the powder is so stress-relieving!! And surprisingly, the sesame oil goes really well with the seaweed flavor, adding another dimension of complexity to the umami of seaweed. Crispy fries with delicious flavor!! Yay! Who cares how much MSG is there? At least for however long shaker fries are available... and always, in moderation!

Came squashed, estimated to be half the height of the burger pictured in the advert. Essentially a cheap Ramly burger (I.e.: beef patty slathered in ketchup, topped with egg and cheese) that I won’t pay more than $2 for.

Tried the egg mcmuffin with the $3 breakfast deal and I just realized there is tomato and mayo in the egg mcmuffin!!! Totally mimicking ramly burger?!

The fries smell promising but it just tasted sweet with barely any salted egg fragrance.. For the first time did I wish they could be less generous with the sauce cause just makes me want to eat plain fries instead..

Peach Pie smells and tastes extremely artificial..😣 It gave an impression of peach scented soap.. Thankfully, the burger was the saviour of this meal cause it’s really delicious and tasted even better than their regular ones👍🏻

In all, it’s a waste of calories on the fries and pie.. Managed to finish most of it (with sheer determination to reduce food waste) and I’m full from disappointment and full of disappointment.. Anyway, look out for my next post tomorrow on review of their Pandan ice cream.
