This visit was long overdue as I haven't been here for close to 10 years! We came just 20 minutes after they opened, but the place was already half full with diners concentrated on their meals.
The sliced fish and egg horfun ($6.50) looked good but was really bland. Luckily the red chilli sauce meant for chicken rice helped to save it. It seems that every table had the hotplate beancurd ($10.90), which is a mix of egg tofu and regular tofu. Nothing spectacular, but we did finish most of it.
The best was definitely the chicken rice ($4.50). The rice, chicken, soup and chilli sauce were all good. Note to self: if craving for chicken rice, come back here again, do NOT succumb to food court nasi ayam.
I have my reservations....

How our different palate differs.... have a beautiful Saturday, my dears 💋
Mackenzie Rex has been around since 1966 and has a loyal following -- for all the right reasons. The star here is undoubtedly the Hainanese Chicken Rice. The chicen is flavoudful and perfectly cooked, served alongside fragrant rice paired with slightly acidic, fiery chilli. Other dishes you can find on the menu are pretty much zi char dishes. Popular are the baby squid -- deep fried and tossed in a slightly sticky sweet sauce -- and the chilli crab and black pepper crab.
*Halal-certified
Definitely a place for you guys who is sick of eating fastfood whenever you're over at Dhoby Ghaut area. A halal eating place that caters their signature main course which is Singapore's favourite, Chicken Rice! And who eats chicken rice on its own? With tons of side dishes to choose from, be it soup, or even seafood, you can get it all. If you know where is Strictly Pancakes, how about taking another 2-3 mins walk to Mackenzie Rex and satisfy those hungry growling tummy!
