SG Claypot Rice Trail…
Really decent neighbourhood claypot rice found here, heard that they have been selling for over 30 years already! Chicken meats were tender, while the rice was pretty fragrant with lots of charred bits (锅巴) at the bottom. Other ingredients include lup cheong and salted fish. They offer two kinds of chicken here - normal or kampong chicken (additional $1), will try the latter version next time.
Throwback to happier makan-OUT days with the claypot rice from New Lucky Claypot Rice, a Michelin Bib Gourmand awarded stall located at Holland Drive Market & Food Centre.
The rice is cooked over charcoal stoves, so do expect a long waiting time during peak hours (Pro Tip: call them and order in advance to save on waiting time). Love the slightly charred and crispy rice crust topped with tender and juicy chicken! Elevate the taste further by mixing in sesame oil and dark sauce! Generous serving includes ingredients like Chinese sausages and salted fish too!
That said, they are currently only available for takeaway because of the circuit breaker rule, so do continue to support them and other local F&B businesses during this trying period through takeaway or food delivery services.
Discovered another stall selling very yummy claypot rice.
I liked how fragrant the rice was (not too watery), how tender the chicken was and the very shiok sambal balacan chilli that came with it.
I heard during peak hours, the waiting time can be very long, so my advice is call them in advance to place your order before coming down to eat.
The chicken meat were cooked to tender perfection & the portion was also very generous!
There are at least 3 stalls here in Chinatown Complex Hawker Centre that sells claypot rice. While this stall is not the most popular (that honour belongs to Lian He Ben Ji), they have their own set of loyal fans. Underrated claypot rice gem!
The claypot rice here is more of a ‘wetter’ style as compared to my favourite one from Golden Mile Hawker Centre (Yew Chuan), but it is delicious too! The chicken is tender, lup cheong portion is generous & the rice was getting slightly burnt around the edges of the pot which gave the dish a great smokey flavour.
The chicken is cooked to tender perfection, very nice to bite into. I can taste individual rice grains, coated perfectly with the dark sauce (add to your own taste accordingly). Most importantly, the chaotar rice smell in the claypot is infused into the whole dish. Yums!
I have found another favorite claypot rice to eat!
This is a seriously underrated store in the middle of Bukit Batok. The rice is fluffy and nice to bite into, while the chicken is suitably tender. While I prefer the sauce to be thicker and more flavorful, the chilli sauce at this store is the best I have eaten thus far! Definitely would travel to Bukit Batok for this!
