We drove to petaling jaya and tried jin xuan. My malaysian colleague had raved about how good the dim sum was. It sure did not disappoint!
Pretty and quaint cafe that serves fanciful bakes such as cupcakes. We ordered a lemon cake to try. The burst of citrus from the icing cream was refreshing and the sweetness was balanced by the cake layers.
The meat balls are unlike the ones in Sg. The pork is not as concentrated in the meatball. Squarish and a sponge-like crunch to it. Served with thin kway teow with a soy minced meat sauce. Quite disappointed with the lack of flavours. Tasted bland.
After my disappointing experience with the bar chor mee at the same kopitiam, we ordered a plate of this to try. It was more savoury than the singaporean version. But that is what my malaysian friends would tell me- they share the same name, but they have different recipes.
A different variation from singapore and johor version. Served with cabbage and different variety of meat. Very generous portion of char siew, meat balls etc.
Sek Yuan was number 1 on my to-go-to list in KL. Known for its long history and good cantonese cuisine. We ordered their signature roasted delights and soy chicken to makan.1/3 the affordable price and x3 the deliciousness. We were very satisfied.
