Popping it in the toaster oven for a couple of minutes certainly did wonders for this treat! The exterior was crispy, flakey and extremely buttery, while the insides remained fluffy such that I could tear the layers apart easily. The pastry comprised lusciously thick swirls (none of that dainty tea pastries that serve to make you only hungrier), making every bite delightfully satisfying. This was certainly comparable in taste and quality to a French bakery that I loved in Australia, and it makes me happy (& frankly a little terrified for my waistline) to know where I can get such quality pastries in Singapore now. I'd definitely have to try the other selections soon!
Reasonably priced scone at $3.30 served with butter & strawberry jam. There are lots of cranberries in the scone and jam is therefore unnecessary. Portion is large but taste is passable.
I knew I had over ordered but when I saw this beauty, with such a delightful name, I just couldnāt resist. I love orange and I love lavender. And this cake was the best sweet treat I tried that morning. The orange and lavender flavors really shone thru. Yes it was sweet. Much sweeter than I preferred. So I scrapped off the dollops of pure sugar frosting on top. Still too sweet but much better. Also the most expensive one at $6. Their cakes were tiny and this one was the same. I couldnāt believe I spent almost $30 there and still didnāt feel full.
Mushroom Soup Set with lava cake & Apple tea. The lava cake would have been perfect if it was oozing! ($9.80 per set)
Probably one of the cheaper Canele out there that is of the same size as Tiong Bahru Bakery's. At $1.80, this is a delightful sweet treat ā wasn't as cloying sweet as it can become, but still rather adequately sweet anyway. The insides were soft and moist; very Kueh-like but I especially love the crusty bottom ā the best part of the Canele indeed!
Pain au Chocolat et le dƮner
Pain du Chocolat - S$2.8
š: @breadandhearth Singapore
Tart-has crunchy base, raspberry was just a hint but chocolate filling was rich 4/5
Scones-Crumbly, generous amount of cream cheese, has berries for added tanginess 4/5
Crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside. This is best eaten on the same day or within a day of purchase. I like how this was the perfect size for two open sandwiches.
You can get the fishnet shopping bag for $5 and get 50 cents off your next purchase when you bring it!
Apparently a must try so we ordered this. The Wave and the Field was our favorites! The Valley was way too sour for our liking. Would be great if they had homemade butter as well though. $10 for these variety of breads.
