CHEAP
Simplicity at its best. A set lunch at Ah Bong's consists of a plate of pasta, a drink and a slice of dessert (we got a brownie). Extremely value for money, and I liked the pasta for its understated simplicity.
What I like most about most vietnamese cuisine is the abundance of garnish that comes with the dish! It was light on the palette, but if you'd like some punch go give their chilli a go. I'll be back!! 👍🏻
Another day, another lunch at Super Ngon. This is becoming a regular thing when we're just looking for a comforting meal near the office (with aircon).😂
Kuay teow, a flavourful broth and fresh herbs is good enough for me! Simple but satisfying though I wished the beef was just a tiny bit more exciting cause it didn't leave much of an impression. The value set meal also comes with two fresh spring rolls (the clear kind that's stuffed with prawns and bee hoon) and a refreshing iced tea. You can upgrade that to a Vietnamese coffee (+$2.50) which you should if you're pining for a strong hit of caffeine. ☕️
Generously stacked tender slices of wagyu beef (not melt in your mouth due to the cut), combined with the silky yolk, yoghurt sauce and seasoned rice was a delight. At $10, it may be pricier than your usual hawker fare, but getting a wagyu beef donburi at this price is insane value. DOCO is a new donburi shop for you CBD peeps near International Plaza! A really simple menu with four items (two rice bowls and two coconut items), they're mainly a takeaway concept but they do have a few seats available.
Between the two bowls, you'll want to pick the beef version which comes with well marinated, soft shreds of beef and crispy Cajun spiced fish skin. Do what we did and just add on more meat for $1.50, cause why not? While tasty, definitely would have appreciated some freshness to the bowl in the form of some veggies or pickles. Possible add-ons in the future maybe? 😛
