This Is Home, Truly
What is intriguing about this place is that you can have biryani with many options of meat available! I chose salted egg yolk chicken, but there was also roasted char shao! The salted egg yolk chicken was really the star - crispy, coated in sauce (although there could have been more). Unlike some salted egg yolk sauces which tend to be too watery, this stuck to the chicken well without being too overpowering or making it soggy. The biryani rice was fragrant and especially tasty with the papadum. The eggs unlike the usual hard boiled ones, was semi soft boiled, like a ramen egg, which was a refreshing change. All in all, it was an interesting fusion dish!
We tried a mix of Kosong, Telor, Coin and mushroom cheese Pratas. All of them were consistently crispy. But what was also lacking across the different types was that fragrance. Unfortunately, their curry wasn't flavourful enough, even when we asked for fish curry, and couldn't bring up the taste in the Prata.
Overall, a big Yes for crispiness but Nay for taste.
"Guang Fa Laksa" had operated for close to fifteen years in Ghim Moh before moving to Havelock Food Centre (stall #01-26) nearly five years ago. Their style of laksa is heavy on "rempah" and coconut milk which means it's full of body and depth. I shared this bowl of mee and beehoon version with my mum, and she was impressed with it. No mean feat that.
This plate of fried white carrot cake has the crispyness that i always craved for whenever i eat carrot cake! They have a $5 option where you will be served half of white carrot cake and the other half, black carrot cake. I did not order the black as i am not a fan of the sweet sauce and white carrot cake is good enough for me. It taste unique and can tell that the kway is hand made as it is softer. The stall is owned by a friendly hearing impaired couple and would definitely be a good place to try good froed carrot cake!๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
Best prawn noodles ever! Prawns are fresh, huge and the soup is amazing. Worth a trip here and it's so convenient! My bi-monthly trips here never disappoint! Uncle is really friendly and jovial.
Despite being someone who is not a big fan of fried kway teow and had eaten only 2 plates of fried kway teow in my life, this plate of kway teow has won me over! I never like noodles with sweet sauce but this stall has the right amount of seasoning that made me enjoy this plate thoroughly. It has the fragrant wok hei taste that is the major reason why it always have long queue of patrons waiting. Do try it and i would say its one of the best in Singapore๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
Finally made it to Seng Kee! Had both the mee sua and the crispy bee hoon and between the two? No fight, the WINNA is Chao Ta Bee Hoon! ๐
Light crisp around the edges, strong char that made each mouth a delight and that limed up chilli added even more to each bite. Dig underneath and you'll find crunchy bean sprouts, small chunks of prawn and thin slivers of fish cake. Shiooook!
It's been awhile I last visited Seng Kee and they literally have taken over the entire street. The long queue moves very fast and you'll be with your favorite mee sua, chao tah bee hoon and har jeong gai all within 30min on a Sunday night. Great place to bring your parents to. Pro-tip: free parking at some abandoned lot opposite the restaurant.
His loss is my gain as they now only operate at Pasir Panjang, which is near to my workplace. I didn't know about his place until he mentioned (or kpkb) it.
There are many types of Briyani and each city in India and Pakistan have their own version of briyani. This is Pakistani (Peshawar) version. No achar, instead they serve a delightful raita and curry to go with it. The rice is good, loads of spices but not overwhelming.
This is only $5! I should have turned the chicken over to show that it's the breast plus wing. This is how it was served, so I let it be. Slurp!! A note of caution : beware of the cardamom! Don't bite into it! Eat slowly!
Shortcrust pastry โ๏ธ, but even better is how deep the tart base is, which means a super generous egg filling as well. Officially my fav egg tart in SG ๐
As the wok is really heated, it will char the Kway Teow and cause the wok hei flavour to be really intense. ๐๐ป

You get to choose many flavours, including seafood, fish, beef and for me I choose prawns. The Hor Fun was not over saucey, so the proportion of the dry and wet of the Hor fun is just ๐๐ป

At around ($4) per plate, you get to feel satisfied, warm and craving to go back for more! ๐ค
