Millennial being a millenial, I was extremely curious about this viral apple-shaped bun when the pop-up of Bakery 1946 (@Suhyeongdang) and St. Geundae Bakery (@Geundae Golmok Danpatppang) at @marketblue was announced. Since long queues could be expected, I was really thankful to @jurong for hosting this groupbuy so I could get my hands on at least one, fuss free!

Also known as DaeguNeunggeumbang, it was not difficult to understand why this apple-shaped bun was a crowd pleaser. In addition to its exceptionally realistic and detailed appearance, the bun was soft, fluffy and stuffed with cream cheese and diced apples in apple jam. The use of red rice flour was probably the reason attributed to the slight chewy texture. Pairing cream cheese helped to balance the sweetness from the apple jam while adding a hint of savouriness. I would still, however, recommend this to be shared.

The last pop-up will take place from 14 to 21 sept, where all kinds of bread will be up for grabs including a new item, the viral potato bread!

Before ending off with the chilled lemongrass jelly dessert, we had the Stir-fried Ee-fu Noodles with Wild Mushroom and Shrimp Roe. The restaurant accommodated to our request to replace the original Fried rice with seafood and egg white in XO sauce. Nothing too extraordinary but I have to say the portion was, perhaps, larger.

Ya Ge also serves different lunch and dinner menus that are affordably priced.

This was followed by the 3rd course, braised Dong Po pork with broccoli. I have always been wary of this dish for its ultimate fattiness, and can safely say the best I have ever had was still the one in Shanghai. Fortunately, the braised pork here wasnā€™t extremely fatty, yet unfortunately, the lean meat wasnā€™t tender enough to melt in the mouth. Instead, it was actually a little tough.

The double-boiled chicken soup with cordyceps flower was light in flavour, nutritious, and just right on the overall basic taste. It was particularly homely, as it reminded me of the exact one cooked by mum at home.

Housed within Orchid Hotel, Ye Ge serves traditional Chinese taste with a modern twist. Individually portioned, the lunch set began with the Ya Ge Dim Sum selection that comprises a beautiful thyme butterfly pea infused shrimp dumpling, crispy mini pumpkin pastry with minced chicken resembling 南ē“œé„¼ but with a savory touch while not being overly starchy, and crispy ugly duckling with chicken, yam and mushroom. Itā€™s the commonly known yam ring shaped into an adorable duckling , just that I am not a fan of yam ring. This first course was already pretty heavy and filling.

Ended off with an apple crumble way out of our expectation. Created with a slightly sweet apple sorbet that was really shaped like a green apple, but there were also real green apple sticks. Served with apple compote, cinnamon crumble and salted caramel. Apple crumble reinvented but be sure to mix the salted caramel with the apple sorbet for a balanced taste!

Special thanks to Jean and the team for the impeccable service!

Poisson also offers affordable set lunch on weekdays at $32++.

We were served Sailorā€™s Catch for our main course, which was pan-seared threadfin served with mushroom spelt risotto and naibai. Instead of sprinkling garlic, a garlic emulsion was playfully used. Not overly pungent, yet delivering the fragrant aroma. The grains used were less soft than the usual ones, but I appreciate that it was less mushy and sticky. Personally it felt like an oriental execution with the variety of mushroom and fungus.

Next, the poached tiger prawns. This was a reminiscent of Thai cuisine, possibly due to the coconut lime vinaigrette and pearl sago. Unfortunately this wasnā€™t to my liking firstly because of the heavy usage of coconut milk as a base, and the tiger prawns tasted like frozen ones. Paired with trout roe and spring onion oil.

SG Restaurant week is back again from 7-30 October 2022! After the spring edition, my friends and I concluded that not only do we enjoy value for money set lunches/dinners, restaurant week also brings us to restaurants that we never thought we would ever explore.

This fall, we made our way to @poisson.sg. A French-inspired seafood restaurant, the creative touch in their cuisine was memorable. We asked to swap the starter, Salmon Crudo, due to dietary restrictions and were served grilled squid as a replacement. Love the chargrilled aroma of the squid that were sprinkled with a mixture of chopped garlic, onions and spices which was a harmonious blend. 2 condiments for pairing; onion tomato and a mixed herb vinaigrette that had a strong raw, earthiness.

These vendors would be present on a rotating basis, and you can look forward to even more such as @edithpatisserie, @boufesg, @crememaisonbakery and many more in August!
Something special that I really enjoyed were these fried salted egg cake topped over citrus-infused vanilla ice cream and curry leaves, as well as the fried yam lava cake with coconut ice cream by @nonentreedesserts. Such exploding local inspired flavours! They never fail in surprises. Flush it all down with a refreshing blissful berries tea from @1872clippertea at the end.
Catch hold of other dessert vendors such as @bopgelato and @licketysg, thatā€™s gonna bring you the pink waffles exclusively at cake club, throughout the next few weekends. There are also kid-friendly workshops such as cakepop designs and cookie painting.

Thank you @burpple for the invite and Candice from @marinasquaresg for hosting!

A summary of what we tried yesterday.
Kanoom's rainbow mango sticky rice. Colorful sticky rice that went along with ripe thai mango. Other than the blue colored rice that had a floral aroma (which I am guessing it's from the butterfly pea flower), the others were just ordinary glutinous rice with colorings. Also tried their original Thai milk tea, not too rich in flavor but still enjoyable.

Spinaca's Pad Thai French Fries ($6) was a creative dish, with the addition of shredded green mango and their handmade pad thai sauce. But it felt more like mango salad french fries. The Thai beer was free if you took a photo at their booths and shared on instagram.

Craved for something soupy in that rainy weather and so we got ourselves a bowl of mini hot pot ($6) from Soi Thai Soi Nice. Indeed, it warmed me up with its sour tom yum soup. I don't usually take tom yum soup due to its spiciness but this was just right. Other ingredients included instant noodle, sio bak, enoki mushroom, egg, sausage.

The green mango salad ($5) from M's was a generous portion. Other than the mango of course and the usual peanuts, onions, chili, I was delighted by the addition of shrimps and the crispy fried ikan bilis!

Last but not least, the highlight for almost everyone was After You's dessert. There were 2 specific timings for their Signature Shibuya Honey Toast ($15) but the conclusion for me personally was, it wasn't worth the 1.5 hours queue. It was moist inside with the melted butter in every layer of the toast but the buttery flavor was too strong such that it resulted in a fatty and oily taste. The vanilla ice cream was also too light in flavor, pretty disappointing.

Million thanks to the @burpple team for the hard work and @veronicaphua for the friendly hosting of the Hawker Omakase tonight! A really creative concept of fine dining in a Hawker centre setting with our beloved national Hawker food that went along with wine pairing šŸ· : spicy dumpling, popiah, tofu, chwee kueh, rojak, sour plum lime juice, broccoli, ngoh hiang, song fish head, claypot rice, black glutinous rice with salted coconut milk, sea coconut jelly. Met like-minded foodies who upped the game with their awesome plating and photography skills (which obviously I can't šŸ˜‚). Let's continue to preserve our unique hawker culture together and looking forward to future Burpple events! Happy long weekend everyone šŸ˜€ *Burp* #burpplehawmakase #loveforhawkerfood #foodporn #burpple #uniquelysingapore
