Tiong Bahru

The sauce is the key ingredient to this wonderful hand crafted mixture of snacking food. Chilli is not very spicy.
I'd somehow never seen this stall before, had it for the first time today. Unlike the usual lighter-colored thicker gravy that I'm used to, this bowl of pitch black sauce is actually pretty tasty too. Very generous portion for S$3.50, chunky tender pieces of beef with silky thick bee hoon. Yummy herbal broth too, just wish there were some bean sprouts to balance the entire meal.
I especially love their putu ayu and kueh dardar because the coconut and pandan are so fragrant.
Oh we are loving this cute traditional-looking stall newly open at Tiong Bahru Plaza, B1-123, opposite Gong Cha.
Bun Times offers the traditional buns with fillings that are so rare nowadays such as Hae Bee Hiam, Cai Po Chicken, Otah, Sardine and Ikan Bilis. Impress your friends and family with these traditional flavours.
Besides the popular Curry Chicken Bun, our favorite was the Coconut Bun! š We reheated and ate it hot. The fluffy bun and sweet caramelized coconut filling was just so wonderful. š
They also sell steamed buns, puffs, tarts, stews and curry chicken for takeaways. š

Tiong Bahru market is no stranger to any Singaporeans. It's where you can famous Chwee kueh, prawn noodles and Lor Mee under one roof.
ā¢
The Lor Mee gravy was not too starchy nor salty and the thick noodle texture were just nice. Add a bit of vinegar and garlic to enhance the flavour of the Lor ( dark sauce ). I ordered the $4 version, where it comes with shark meat instead the normal Ngoh Hiang and pork slices. The shark meat, may has a crispy exterior, but there was no difference in term of texture and taste between normal fish meats. I would rather have my Ngoh Hiang and pork slices!
ā¢
Overall, it was a decent Lor Mee and it could be my comfort food any day.
Was browsing through @burpple to find what to have in Tiong bahru area and we found a jem, Leung Sang Hong Kong Pastries.
ā¢
They sell an assortment of pastries at $1.40 each and when you buy 10, you get 1 free! We bought their Leung Sang Egg Tart and Roasted Chicken Pastry.
ā¢
Jae prefers the "Hong Kong" style Egg Tarts where the crusts is buttery, flaky and crumbly and this is the exact description to Leung Sang's Egg Tart! Their egg curd is smooth and creamy too.
ā¢
The crust of their Roasted Chicken Pastry is similar to their Egg tart's but is wrapped around roasted chicken fillings (similar to char siew). They give generous servings of chicken that every bite consists of chunks of chicken!
ā¢
Yesterday while ordering, Jae made a mistake in her order and the auntie had to change aĀ box (for storing of pastries) which she apologised for causing the inconvenience. And to Jae's apology, the auntie's replied that customers are always right and that sometimes when she makes mistake, people refuse to accept her apology. It was rather upsetting to hear that and we feel like people often forgot that people like auntie (or others who serves us food or gives us service) are people with feelings too. If everyone are more courteous to each other, everyone would be a happier person.
