This Hawaiian-themed store run by a group of friends dishes out delicious poké bowls — perfect for a satisfying yet healthy lunch that doesn't warrant a food coma after. Seats are limited, so head here early to snag one of the square tables if you're coming in a group. Poké Doké offers three poké bowl sizes with four add ons each, of which the Medium ($14.90) with two scoops of fish was just right for lunch. Of all the bases, we enjoyed the well-seasoned Soba (additional $1.50) the most. As for fish, salmon and tuna cubes are tossed in three different marinades — Original, Wasabi and our favourite, Spicy. The latter leaves a mild, pleasant burn in small doses, but packs a punch if you have it all at one go — great for those who like a kick. For toppings, opt for the cubed pineapples, flying fish roe, edamame and cherry tomatoes. Skip the not-so runny onsen egg as your premium topping and go for a scoop of creamy Avocado (additional $1.50) instead.

Lunch in the business district doesn't always mean revisiting the same old haunts. Set in the basement of Clifford Centre's NTUC Foodfare, Le Bouillon serves delicious and filling French fare. The kitchen is helmed by the former head chef of Saveur Restaurant, who has more than 10 years of experience cooking French food. Prices start from $2 for two pieces of Garlic Bread and goes upward to $15.90 for a set meal, which comes with a main and sides. Go for the crowd favourite Chicken Roulade Set (Set 1, $12.90) that comes with linguine pasta with crab meat sauce and a side of mesclun salad. Stuffed with cheese and mushrooms, Burpple Tastemaker Zhihui Lim describes the Chicken Roulade to be "perfectly browned and lightly crisped on the side". Otherwise, treat yourself to the Duck Confit Set (Set 2, $15.90) — the pan-seared duck leg is well-seasoned, meaty and downright satisfying.

House of AnLi, a European furniture and homeware store on the third floor of Tanglin Mall, has designated a part of its space for its newly minted bistro. The space, complete with stunning floor-to-ceiling windows (very picturesque!), also has long communal tables — great for weekend brunch with the family. Soak in the good vibes as you sip on a Latte (from $5.50) made with Allpress Espresso coffee beans from New Zealand, then tuck into the simple but well-executed Eggs on Sourdough Toast (from $6). There's a choice of having one or two New Zealand organic eggs on your toast, as well as the style it's cooked in (soft boiled, poached or scrambled). For the full works, be sure to add on the Farmer's Bacon ($6), Avocado ($4) and Mixed Mushrooms ($6). All breads served in House of AnLi Bistro are made in France and shipped to Singapore. Note that dishes here can add up to be quite pricey (especially the mains), but the quality of the food and the ambience makes it worthwhile!

Tucked away on the second floor of Fuji Xerox Towers, Ho-Jiak serves hearty Japanese curry rice bowls at affordable prices — perfect for those working in the area. Head here early to snag one of the long tables that accommodates eight if you intend to dine in a big group. Otherwise, there are bar seats for those who want a quick solo meal. All bowls come served with luscious Japanese curry set atop a bed of premium calrose rice. Choose from five different proteins on the menu — of which the Pork Shoulder Shabu ($8.90), Oven-Baked Chicken Leg ($7.90) and our personal favourite, Beef Knuckle Shabu ($9.90) are the more popular options. The latter sees a generous portion of thinly shaved, tender beef slices. For those who want more protein, opt for the Double Goodness ($12.90) — choice of two meats — or go for the All In ($14.90) that includes pork, chicken and beef. Prices are nett and there's no GST or service charge. Pro tip: Gather your colleagues and share five Asahi Super Dry or Hoegaarden Beers for only $30 — happy hour prices all day long!

Exuding old-world charm with its intricate details and charming decor, this new European restaurant within Park Hotel Clarke Quay is the perfect place for your next business meeting. Those working in the vicinity should pop by for lunch (it's prettier in the day anyway!) and take advantage of their value-for-money two-course ($18) and three-course ($22) set lunches. Portions run big, so it's best for small eaters to get one two-course and one three-course so that you can share the dessert — that way you and your business partner will be leaving satisfied. There are two to three options for each course, of which the clear standouts are the velvety smooth Butternut Velouté and the more wallet-friendly option of the Haddock Fillet, which is priced at $26 as an a la carte item on the dinner menu. End the meal with the Coconut Blancmange ($12) that features smooth, creamy coconut custard topped with tangy passionfruit coulis.

You may turn your nose up at paying upmarket prices for local fare here at Po, the flagship restaurant of The Warehouse Hotel, but we respect how they've shone the spotlight on Singaporean cuisine. It helps too that the menu is curated by local celebrity chef Willin Low (pioneer of modern Singapore cuisine) and that the dishes are all made painstakingly from scratch using quality ingredients. Some to try include the succulent Kurobuta Char Siew ($19), their signature Popiah (from $28), Spicy Tamarind Barramundi ($29) and Truffle and Duck Pie Tee ($19). The latter comes filled with braised pulled duck, burdock salad and truffle mash. Save space for the Teh Halia Panna Cotta ($14), which Burppler Caecilia Caecilia loves for both its perfect wobbly texture as well as strong teh tarik flavour. They also have a pretty interesting cocktail list with tipples inspired by Singapore's history. A Singapore Sazerac ($20, mix of raisin bourbon, pandan bitters, rye, cognac, absinthe and spiced demerara) for a nightcap, perhaps?

Housed in the same coffeeshop as Hua Yang SiChuan cuisine along Tyrwhitt road, this stall is the neighbour and extension of the famed 88 Hong Kong Roast Meat Specialist. The Wanton Mee Co only has three items available on the menu — Wanton Mee ($4.50), Kai Lan ($4.50) and Wanton Soup ($4.50). However, you can avoid the long queue at 88 Hong Kong Roast Meat Specialist and get their roasts meats added onto the wanton noodles instead! Get the Char Siew ($2) for its melt-in-your-mouth fatty bits, or the Sio Bak ($2) for the unbelievably crackling skin. While the noodles won't blow your mind, portions are generous, making this a satisfying lunch altogether.

Enjoy the best of American diner food here at One Night Only, located at the junction of River Valley Road and Zion Road. The menu sees a good selection of American comfort food and the setting is laidback and comfortable — it's a nice hangout if you live around the area, or if you are looking for a place to line the tummy before hitting the clubs. Get the Chicken-Fried Steak ($21) and the Nashville Hot Chicken (from $16.50 for two pieces, plus two sides). Unlike what its name suggests, the former is actually a deep-fried, battered piece of wagyu steak, while the latter pleases with a biscuit-like batter and juicy chicken. Do as Burppler Dex Neo advises and choose the mac 'n' cheese and onion rings for your sides. If you enjoy breakfast for dinner, you'll love their all-day breakfast plates that include Classic Buttermilk Pancakes ($9.50) and Build Your Own Breakfast (items priced between $3 to $6). Pro tip: One Night Only offers delivery via Deliveroo. Bookmark this for lazy weekends in.
