Cafe
For a fun day out with the whole family, this modern Japanese cafe in Sungai Besi hits all the right notes. While dads can keep themselves busy ogling at the big boy toys (the slew of Mazda cars next door in the service centre), mums can convene over coffee and cakes as kids frolick over at the spacious playarea. The menu of Japanese fusion food has something for everyone, from the Hachi Gyu Don (RM25) with honey-glazed beef to a zingier Yuzu Katsu Udon (RM26) slicked in a Japanese citrus dressing. Kohi Yatta also offers mini meals to entice little ones β try the foolproof Macaroni Minestrone (RM8), Mini Beef Hamburger (RM8) and a daily flavour of mixed mash for newborns. On sweets, the Grand Emperor (RM15) makes a fine treat with healthy oat pancakes steeped in maple syrup, salted whipped cream and kid-pleasing berries. Always looking for new ways to wow, the cafe also puts forward high tea sets and double-bowl lunch promos to look out for.

The tender fried chicken and fluffy pancakes delivered with FedEx levels of competence, but the headliner here is indisputably the chye poh-esque chilli, which presents a riotous carnival of flavours - from sweet and seedy spicy to saliva-teasingly tangy - that will run the real risk of you having insufficient chilli for the titular items due to you being so stalkerishly addicted to that wicked nectar. 3.9/5

I am not kidding about the name; it really bears that quirky name there. From Omoomodon which is newly-opened at The Star Vista, the Japanese-Korean fusion rice bowls do seem to fit the office crowds around Biopolis well given they start from $8. This comes at $12 with sirloin steak, multigrain rice, kimchi omelette and teriyaki sauce. Overall the quality is pretty decent and portion is hearty for the price; the steak wasn't of the best grade but they did managed to grill it to medium rare with a pink center which was commendable while the meat was not gamey. The kimchi omelette was interesting; omelette egg with kimchi within so you get a little cabbage to crunch on while it carries a spicy zing that was rather manageable. The multigrain rice also had bits tasting similar to black glutinous rice for a bit of sweetness. Quite a decent option if you are looking for a place within The Star Vista below $15 for a meal. (PS: They also do offer Build Your Own Bowls where you can mix and match the different components, and there is Bingsu for dessert as well!)
I had the roast chicken grain bowl ($18+), which had roasted zucchini (2 pieces π), sauteed cherry tomatoes, mixed mushrooms, butternut squash, cabbage and apple slaw on a bed of wild and brown rice. Extremely filling and satisfying! I mixed everything together a la bibimbap and it was delicious. The other item in the picture is their rendang donburi (beef rendang with Japanese rice). Judging from how clean my friend's bowl was, it should be delicious as well π.
