Presentation was expected, to be frank it was even underwhelming at times. Yes there’s Caviar, yes it’s one of the highly prized crustaceans from the waters around Mazara del Vallo, a small town on the south-western coast of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea. The Red Mazara Prawn was honey sweet and the caviar lends its salty, savoury elements to the dish that almost completes it, almost. .

There seems to be a missing touch and the portion was forgettable. I think fine dining is dying out everywhere... people nowadays prefers Casual Dining but I think there will be - and there has to always be - room for at least a small number of really fine, old-school fine-dining restaurants.

A bowl of rice (I implore you to top up just S$0.50 to change your usual boring rice to their Shiny Rice - it’s drizzled with lard and garlic oil, a sinful once in awhile indulgence) topped with a mountain of crispy fried chicken that’s both flavourful and generous, with a side of perfectly sous-vide egg and pickles. .
.
So, what could be better than that? It’s their new lunch promotion. Just add 💵S$3.80 on top of your lunch bowl for one appetiser and free flow homemade drinks.

One of the very very few legit authentic old school American smokehouse here in town. The prices might be steep for some items but it’s ultimately worth your buck. Barbecue, it's like porn to man. What explains barbecues unholy grip on men of all backgrounds, only God knows. .

The smoky savory allure of fat stacks were carefully rubbed, slowly cooked meat shoulders, ribs & brisket sliced thin or hacked rough, if only you can look at that shimmering, glistering globes of fat and other goodness. A slab of limitless possibilities of loveliness. .

Fat is flavour folks, and if your Friend(s) cut it out of your barbecue or refuse to eat it, here’s what you need to know about Fat/Life in general. If any Friend(s) of yours refuse to eat fats from a bbq establishment, you can’t submit to this kind of evil act, you need to stand up, stare at their face and force them to eat it or tell them to f@uk off.

Many restaurants have a secret menu, it’ll be bestow upon you only if you dare ask, or have a negotiating/persuading skills of a notoriously motivated Insurance Agent, or the waiter/manager/owner of the establishment feels like you deserved the treatment. Once you get into that secret side of the culinary culture, it’s addictive, like getting into a Mafia. A delicious one.

As you might expect, dishes from those menu are always executed exceptionally well. Sweet and savoury, the stickiness of the meat just falls off the bone. It’s surprising given that their specialty is seafood but do not let this deter you from their amazing array of fresh seafood.

PS; this is only available at the Dempsey outlet, each outlet have their own secret item as I was told.

What Keisuke-san can’t do? Probably nothing, taking each concept, one store at a time in Tanjong Pagar. With his latest venture, it will be his 15th restaurant in town, it’s sooner or later he’ll be representing Tanjong Pagar as a MP and sure as hell I’ll vote for him. .

What’s looks like an exclusive, sleek and modern high end sukiyaki restaurant with just 14 seats can surprise you when it comes to the price of each bowl - either its US Prime Beef (S$13.90) or Wagyu (S$29.90) here everything is cook in front of you table side. .
.
The best thing about this bowl is every component mixed up in that bowl. For the price you pay, you get a perfectly cooked beef along with the sweet and savoury sukiyaki sauce. There’s even a block of creamy tofu, shirataki and to top it all, an onsen egg. If your wallet permits you to have the Wagyu version, I implore you to get that instead. You might not get the same quality and version for the same value anywhere else.

Mazesoba, literally translated as mixed noodle is a new ramen wave that’s taking over the ramen scene one bowl at a time. Basically it’s a bowl of udon like soba noodles, a superbly addictive mince meat sauce, ground Saba fish, nori seaweed, green onions, leeks, chopped garlic and a poached egg. Take a whiff at it, pour in the vinegar and chili powder, toss it and slurp it. .
.
The result is an eruption of delicious flavours, especially so if you order the spicy version which is much recommended. The original versions are already a little spicy, but this has more kick to it, if you enjoy mala, this is for you. The table side kombucha vinegar is a must or else the whole bowl might be too jelak. Finally a Japanese style Ba Chor Mee.

All those gorgeous ingredients stuffed into the Hoagie Roll (which are hollowed out for more fillings). Basically a Philly CheeseSteak, the thinly sliced Beef was really Generous and Juicy too, so Juicy that frankly, you'll end up getting your hands dirty but Trust me it's damn well worth it (& a ton of tissues which luckily it's provided) .

ACAMASTIPS💮: Get 1 of any Savoury Sandwiches (but I'd Recommend the CheeseSteak Obviously) & their Signature PB&J as Dessert, Sandwiches are cut into half therefore it will be wise to come with a Partner to share.

If there is one local delicacy that I will not give up (even when I am dieting), it got to be the undisputed national dish - Chicken Rice. I am not a chicken rice advocate or an enthusiast and yes I have tried the famous ones like Tian Tian and Ah Tai at Maxwell, commercially successful chains like Boon Tong Kee and Five Star. However there are still many, many hidden gems which are equally good or even better.

One of them will be this humble stall located at Katong Shopping Centre. Fragrant soy sauce, perfectly roasted chicken and the rice alone makes the trip well worth it. You even get a free plate of achar which acts as a perfect palate cleanser, not too spicy with a slight tanginess and a bowl of soup with generous amount of cabbage which compliments the entire set well. Best in Singapore? Keep your favourite stall in mind and be your own judge.

It’s been awhile since I had what I proclaimed to be one of the best, if not the best sandwich shack in town and thank god they’ve kept their standards. Believe me when I said all their sandwiches are worth a try as I have completed the entire menu and it’s worth every damn calorie. .

PS; I believe that, as a self respecting lover of food, I should be able to walk into any restaurant and order my hamburger – the most American of foods – medium fucking rare. I don’t believe my hamburger should have to come with a warning to cook it well done to kill off any potential contaminants or bacteria. … I believe I should be able to treat my hamburger like food, not like infectious fucking medical waste. I believe the words “meat” and "treated with ammonia" should never occur in the same paragraph – much less the same sentence. Period.

Making a more than a yearly come back, this much loved & appreciated @tsujirihei_honten has enthusiast religiously visiting them and yearning for an outlet here. Rich, intense with a bitter aroma it’s just a pleasure having it yearly, treasure it while they’re still here. .

Here’s an ACAMASTIP; they have both matcha and hojicha but order the mix where you can have the best of both worlds. And please this ain’t the same Tsijiri we have in town. The standards and quality are miles away & one shouldn’t even try to compare. PS: @matchayasg is having a pop-up at @ion_orchard for Singapore Tea Festival if you are around the area and crave awesome matcha another alternative! They have other seasonal flavours too! .

It’s renowned to warrant long queues during meal times and even packed to the brim too on odd hours. Inarguably they established themselves as the Original White Bee Hoon, claimed to be the very best and superior than other rendition. .

The hype and positive reviews meant that I went with a rather high expectation for the dish and restaurant (I even went to the OG outlet). Like a roller coaster going up, building the anticipation, however once you reach the peak, it’s not a fun and thrilling downhill, it’s a flat railway. .
.
There’s not much flavour to begin with, there isn’t even any wok hei (the essence of the wok) it was flat and boring. Any hawker, Kopitiam or home cooked edition will be so much better. Maybe the standards dropped after opening other outlets and it’s still riding on the heritage and their name but that is all.

Like Sushi and/or Chicken Rice, the rice is everything, almost everything. If the rice is perfectly executed and paired with a kickass chili, it can simply be enjoyed on its own. Their rice isn’t fragrant and rich enough for me and with a heavy heart for me to say this - their sambal too, I yearn to see some coconut milk still oozing along with the steaming rice. .

The fried chicken was cooked exceptionally retaining its juiciness, seasoned well with lemongrass, galangal, turmeric and you can’t go wrong with the classic sides. The sambal was disappointing though, it doesn’t have the traditional spicy sweet combination and taste, packs a punch but lacked character. Maybe it’s their off day or the rice we got was a bad batch because some of my friends were raving about the place and some saying it’s over hyped. .

What justifies the high price tag? Maybe it’s the old crop jasmine rice. Maybe it’s the coconuts they use which is from a specific plantation in Sabak Bernam. Maybe it’s their marketing. Maybe it’s the location. Maybe we ought to give them a chance and patron The Coconut Club once more, Maybe. Or maybe Punggol Nasi Lemak at Tanjong Katong or Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak or Changi Village Nasi Lemak. Once again, Taste Is Subjective.
