Supper Time
This dry version is unique. None of that que que texture...it is softer but not soggy and goes very well with the chilli. But a bowl like this will not be enough for the big eatersš #noodles #noodlelovers #lunch #singaporefood #sgfoodies #burpple #i8mondays #8dayseat @hungrygowhere #bloggerssg
While this stall in Block 163 Gangsa Road's coffee shop also serves other dishes like porridge, mee hoon kuey and crispy e-mee, it is the humble instant noodles ā otherwise known as "Ke Kou Mian" ("tasty noodles" in Mandarin) ā that people rave about. Operations start only at 2am (they close at noon), after the other stalls have packed up, and streams of customers flock here through the night and into the morning. The shop owner is shorthanded in the wee hours, so expect the waiting time to stretch from 30 minutes to an hour. Go for the Pork Koka Noodles with egg (from $3) in the original flavour. Its broth is simmered for over 10 hours and they are generous with both the minced and sliced pork. Those who can handle the heat should go for the Spicy version with egg ā it'll wake you right up!
Avg price: $5 per person

First time trying this! Instead of syrup, this smooth beancurd comes topped with bak chor and sesame oil. Served warm, I wish I could have this for breakfast š
I remember those times after a long mahjong game, we'd start to feel hungry in the middle of the night, craving for a bowl of hot broth with all parts of the pig. We'd just drive down to this coffee shop in the middle of Bishan. Best eaten on a cold, rainy night, this assortment of meat, egg and other ingredients warmed our hungry and growling stomachs. It's even open till 4am! #hawkerpedia
"Friends who have known me for a long time would know about my rather strict mother. Because of my curfew, a trip down to Seng Kee would a very rare occurrence for me. Those trips could only happen if my club's basketball training would end earlier (which really happened once in a blue blue moon), where my teammates and I would troop down to the outlet along Changi Road for some team bonding over Mee Sua.
I can still vividly remember having my first bowl. One sip of the rich flavourful herbal soup, and I was sold!! Grabbing my chopstick and ignoring how hot the soup was, I tucked in steadily. The mee sua and the fresh pork meat and organs were all on point. The table would be oddly quiet while we wolfed down everything greedily as we were too hungry after training.
However, I returned a few times occasionally to and realised a sharp drop in standard. Till recently, I found that they had another branch at Kaki Bukit Food Market, where the taste and everything was just as I remembered it to be 5 years back! Having a bowl of it now still reminds me of all the post-training bonding session I used to have with my teammates. #hawkerpedia"
This childhood favourite certainly calls for a surge of nostalgia. As a child, I would frequent this Scissors Cut Curry Rice stall with my parents, especially for supper since it is only a stone's throw away from where I live. It is not only my mum's favourite, my entire family loves it, even till today. I was told how my dad used to bring mummy on dates there, just because she once told him that she loves it, how unromantic! As a kid, I remember how the gooey mess on the plate totally did not appeal to me at first. But as time went by, I grew to love it! It may be a shame that I can no longer patronize the stall with both my parents again, but dining there with my boy today brings new meaning for me as I recall and share my fond childhood memories with him. #hawkerpedia
The wok hei in this dish is REAL folks! Extremely fragrant, it ain't your average hor fun. The gravy is laden with the taste of prawns and fried shallots, making the entire dish slurp worthy.
Do come early though, as part of the experience is a chaotic mess of a queue and confused diners. We got lucky and shared a table (and made a friend! Hi @msginginly ). Will have to come back again as we missed out on their Claypot Yong Tau Foo which was already sold out at ard 630 ššš
There's just something magical about this cauldron of goodies that makes me crave for it over and over again. This time round I was not able to eat it as I was feeling under the weather and I can only see my foodie friends enjoy it as they slurp down bowls and bowls of it. It was painful but an added motivation for me to recover quickly so that I can return for it soon.

Usually not a fan of fried bee hoon, but the one from JB Ah Meng really impressed me. It had a wonderful wok hei, super fragrant, and was super tasty. It is quite sparse on the ingredients, served only with a bit of shrimp, egg and small pieces of squid. However that's not exactly a bad thing since the star is really the bee hoon itself. Must order!
