Cafes
If you ever have a pancake craving, this is the place for you. They're light and fluffy with just a hint of sweetness so that you can still drown them in glorious maple syrup (ask for more!). It comes with a wad of coconut butter and berry compote which go perfectly with the unflavoured pancakes (supposedly vanilla but tbh my unrefined palate couldn't pick that up ). Just get ready for the food coma that follows ๐ด
Nut butter, honey and salt.
Set in a beautiful colonial house, you would expect at least decent brunch grub. What we had instead was cold mushrooms, soggy rosti, bread that was probably toasted when I was still in my mom's ovary, and eggs that look more curdled than scrambled. What a waste of a Long drive!
The combination of flavours and textures is ๐
Wagyu beef with an egg buried in the rice. Very tasty but also very stingy.
For a lap cheong lover like me, this really pleased my palate. The cold noodles are coated with just enough lap cheong oil so that it isn't jelat, and the prawns are turgid and crunchy. They could do with a more generous serving though...
Give it to them for coming up with this take on the old Favourite. But old favourites are favourites for a reason. Don't fix what's not broken..old is gold...Yada yada. The baked whole Granny Smith was undercooked (it took much force with my knife to cut it up), and because it's a whole apple, there's less surface area for the delicious cinnamony sugary goodness to infuse into the fruit, leaving the inner parts bland. The vanilla ice cream was quality though, with real vanilla specks. With the yogurt sauce, I felt the individual components of this dessert didn't come together well.
It is what it is. Fried chicken. And corn bread. Not quite sure what condiment that is- mayo? Sour cream? Didn't taste like much to be honest. The chicken was tender and seasoned enough, but the corn bread doesn't come close to Kenny Roger's.
Hmm I'm not usually one for cafe food, especially if it serves the same ole eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, "big breakfast"... You know the drill. But we were in the area so we decided to try this one out. To be honest, their big breakfast was quite short of greatness. Overcooked scrambled eggs, served with skimpy slivers of bacon, 4 (maybe 5??) mushrooms, a typical sausage and half (yes, half) a brioche, I think there's much left to be desired. Their Mac and cheese was okay, edible but nothing worth mentioning. Tasted like only one type of cheese was used. I guess these honey wings were their saving grace. Battered nicely and well fried with a sticky sweet sauce, you can't really go wrong. Probably not going to make a return trip here though.
