Yummy Ayam Buah Keluak at my favourite Peranakan restaurant!
Coconut is Selfish Gene Patisserie's take on a deconstructed Chendol, using elements such as Pandan jelly, Red Bean Ice-Cream with Red Beans, Coconut Pudding and Gula Melaka. Despite the deconstructed nature of the dessert, it felt pretty cohesive; Coconut Pudding with desiccated coconut gives that strong refreshing aroma while the Gula Melaka brings the other elements such as the homemade Red Bean ice-cream and Pandan jelly together. Red bean ice-cream was sufficiently flavoured, enhanced by the red beans at the side. Feedback that it would be nice to include an Attap Chee along, which the chef had also had taken into consideration as told by their staff when we were leaving.
After sampling flavours i opted for the Rockmelon $3.30 per scoop. It's rather creamy and was not as flavourful as I was hoping for. The other flavours were also rather creamy and lacked the punch.
Nasi Lemak costs $7.80 here. The sambal was nice but the otak was very dry- felt like they microwave the otak to warm it up.
