Sweet Treats
3 munchies: Featuring freshly-cut and crushed cherry tomatoes encrusting a mound of finely shaved ice, this bowl of bingsu makes for a refreshing treat to share with friends. The stash of plum powder in the middle added a nice salty counterpoint to the natural sweetness of the cherry tomatoes and homemade sweetened milk sauce. If only shaved milk ice were used in this dessert – the milkier, the better!
4 munchies: Dark chocolate ganache topped with light and smooth Bailey's espresso cream. Besides the crust that was moist and chocolatey, I also loved the sea salt sprinkles that balanced out the richness and bitterness of the semi-sweet chocolate. This is perfect for afternoon tea! #Burpproved
4.5 munchies: Stacks of fluffy pancakes topped with light chantilly cream, smooth maple butter, and crunchy candied walnuts. The tartness of the caramelised Granny Smith apples was retained, balancing the sweet components of the dish. #Burpproved
The Apple & Cinnamon Pancakes – a Christmas edition item – is only available until 1 Jan 2017. You may now reserve a table on the Chope platform, including weekends!
5 munchies: Celebrity Mod-Sin Chef Shen's interpretation of the traditional bubur pulut hitam is truly a work of genius. The black glutinous rice grains in the warm pudding were cooked so perfectly to the point that they were tender yet still chewy. Drenched with gula melaka butterscotch, what really tied the dish together was the super lemak and smooth house-made coconut ice cream. The pudding was so out of this world that I stole the last bite from the other table's serving plate without any guilt!
Launched just yesterday, the Pulot Hitam Pudding is available daily at Revolution Coffee, from 9am to 6pm. #Burpproved #RevoluShen
This was a hosted meal by Revolution Coffee; many thanks to Chef Shen and Moxie Communications for the warm hospitality, and Burpple for the invitation!
Look no further if you want a cosy place that serves high-quality pastries and good coffee. Featured here are the Carrot Cake, Key Lime Tart, and Litchi Raspberry – all which I'd come back for again. The Litchi Raspberry and Key Lime Tart were absolutely smashing. #Burpproved
4.5 munchies: Last 3 days to get your hands on this absolutely delish Uji Matcha & Shincha Mix Swirl Soft Serve from Tsujirihei-Honten! Just when I thought the matcha was already intensely bittersweet, the flavour of shincha (新茶 – the first month's harvest of sencha) was even more intense and bitter! This is perfect for matcha purists like me.
Tsujirihei-Honten is part of the Japan Autumn Fair at Takashimaya Food Hall, available until 15 September 2016.
4 munchies: How about ending off your night with a pretty Rhuppleberry Softie Pie created by our talented fellow #BurppleTastemaker, Fiona? This sweet treat features cubes of crunchy rhubarb-apple-strawberry cobbler, incredibly smooth brown butter soft serve, candied pecans, and strands of Greek kataifi that gave the dessert a nice crunch!
Don't forget to hashtag #LYDvoteFiona when you post any of the 3 items (the other 2 being Dognuts and Durian Softie Pie) from Team Bird Bird on Instagram to cast your vote!

Featuring a spread of Peony Jade's signature snowskin mooncakes, my picks include the Mango Sago & Pomelo, Wild Blueberry Yoghurt, and Dark Valrhona Chocolate with banana bits. My parents absolutely loved the premium A grade 100% pure Mao Shan Wang durian mooncake in organic pandan snowskin. Misses were the overly rosy and sweet Rose Lychee & Raspberry Jelly Centre and Premium Cempedak that lacked the natural taste and rich flavours of the tropical fruit.
The new mini snowskin mooncakes and 4 Heavenly Snowskin Flavours are available at various locations including the two Peony Jade outlets at Keppel Club and Clarke Quay, Takashimaya Shopping Centre (B2 Square), and TANGS VivoCity till mid-September. Pre-order ends tomorrow, 6 Sep 2016.
Many thanks to Peony Jade and 37 Communications for the boxes of love!
2 munchies: Looks like it's all set to impress, but everything about this Salty Caramel Ring screams sweetness. Served on a hot plate, the base is filled with thick, sugary caramel sauce that barely had sea salt in it. Topped with homemade vanilla ice cream and golden-brown caramel shards, the warm, aromatic croissant donut was, unfortunately, dense and greasy on the inside. I would also lose the marshmallow sprinkles that made the dessert even more cloyingly sweet.
The ingredients used for this dish were of exceptional quality. It was a pity that the flavours were overpowering when you put everything together, though. The high quality vanilla ice cream and macadamia nuts were the only elements I enjoyed in the signature item of this gourmet bakery.
4.5 munchies: This may look cloyingly sweet at first glance, but I never thought I'd end up finishing it with my best friend. The sauce's bright hue of red was not at all intimidating; in fact it tasted like fresh strawberries that have been sweetened just a little. Enveloped in the shaved ice made of milk, the cheesecake was fluffy and not overly dense – perfect texture for soaking up the melted milky dribbles from above.
Oh, I also enjoyed the buttery crumbs found on the base, giving the dessert an extra crunch. The Strawberry Cheesecake Kakigori may just be your perfect afternoon treat to combat the sweltering heat of 38 °C in Bangkok!
4.5 munchies: Coated with crispy bread crumbs and cereal, the brioche was moist and fluffy on the inside. The vanilla ice cream complemented the crunchy toast perfectly – definitely the tastiest brioche I've eaten yet. Garnished exquisitely with fresh berries, walnuts and maple syrup drizzle, the Crispy French Toast was absolutely a delight to have for brunch or dessert. I'd recommend this gorgeous-looking dish for two to share, but I polished it off all by myself anyway!
