🌟Burpple's Review of the Day🌟
Ngohiang by the common man suffers all sorts of afflictions: beancurd skins which are either too thick or too salty, paltry fillings, not crispy enough, etc. Ngohiang by this stall, however, is heavenly. This delectable creation is fried to golden brown perfection – so crispy you can hear an exhilarating crunch when your teeth sinks into the soft and juicy pork filling. When paired with the peanut sauce it's a match made in heaven. We love it, and we're definitely making return trips.

THE BEST comfort food ever!!! Ngohiang by the common man suffers all sorts of afflictions: beancurd skins which are either too thick or too salty, paltry fillings, not crispy enough, etc. Ngohiang by this stall, however, is heavenly. I always look forward to trying something new. The new addition of a Thai eatery in the Novena vicinity is attracting a great lunch crowd with its affordable prices and variety on its menu. The most pleasing item might be this Tom Yum Noodles ($5.80). 😋 With same sides (fish balls, fish cake, minced meatball, pork slices and fried wanton skin) as its Classic Thai Noodles, the tom yum broth is light in terms of spiciness and sourness. We can level up the tastiness by adding the aromatic infusion of fish sauce and spicy chilli which are available on every table. FYI: Thai Milk Tea ($3.80) comes with a free topping and one of the popular choices is Thai Milk Tea Pearls. 😘
DIY, healthy delicious bowls because each component is great even on its own. Super Bowl ($13.80) is a pick of 1 base (can be mixed), 3 sides, a protein and two sprinkles.

🥒 Grilled zucchini 🍆 Grilled eggplant 🥦 Chilli broccoli and cauliflower
Next round, I am so going for the wonderful falafel and hummus, which the others got.
Don’t be fooled by its unassuming appearance - beneath the towering mountain of veggies lies an even greater behemoth: a densely stacked pile of fatty mouthwatering bulgogi! Even after we mixed everything (an arduous and messy task) and the veggies shrunk, we had much difficulty keeping everything within the hot pot dish 😂 A touch of oyster sauce added flavor to the fresh components of greens, sprouts, and oyster, shiitake and enoki mushrooms! All in all, an unforgettable Korean hot pot, one of the best I’ve ever tasted. Make sure to bring along 2 friends or risk falling into a food coma like me! 😂
pardon my bad photos but LOVED the omakase! lovely joint, everything flown in from japan (except oysters - those are from scotland). food was fresh, flavorful and sake was smooth and light. really value for money too! would highly recommend; do call to reserve as they close once they’re done for the day
Second time back at LUKA and still loving this place! This contemporary Italian dining place has a chill vibe and serves affordable, quality food. Their Sotong ($16) is grilled just done served in umami squid ink and hot tomato sauce (which kinda tasted like sriracha). I was mopping the plate clean w the pieces of bread/salad. Don’t forget to order their pizza too! Fire up that sinful pie in firewood brick oven 🔥🔥
Finally trying this 干捞面 mixed with black sauce and chilli sauce - comes with meatballs, minced pork, ikan billis, mushrooms and vegetables. The handmade noodles were QQ and chewy in texture and the chilli sauce was indeed potent (hooray for those who love their food really spicy). Overall, the taste came well together with the black sauce and the accompanying bowl of soup was tasty, thick and helped to wash down the spiciness 😋
The Moussaka ($26) came piping hot with delicious cheese topped. The combination of meat, potatoes, eggplants and cheese was really good. This dish is suitable for sharing. It is one of the most flavorful moussaka’s I have had locally. (Taste: 8.5/10)
Bakalaki’s interior was really comfortable and it gave off a Mediterranean feel. It is a great place to go to if you want a cozy night out. Can’t wait to go back there to try the other dishes!
Little pastries with filling, with a whole walnut hidden in the dough. They taste like taiyaki (the Japanese fish shaped pancakes). Available in red bean, chocolate, custard & cheese. I like the red bean best!
Hor Fun Premium is quite a popular stall in Alexandra Village Food Centre well-known for its hor fun dishes.
We were here for lunch and I finally had the chance to try their Sliced Beef Hor Fun.
This dish, which consists of wok-fried kway teow, vegetables, beef slices, and smothered with a robust eggy gravy, is only assembled when you order. Beef slices were cooked tender while the vegetables were done just right, with a nice crunch. The gravy was not as starchy as compared to others hence it was pretty light. Also, the noodles were probably on another level. Believe me when I say that the wok hei from the noodles could be smelt the moment you start mixing the dish - wok hei explosion 🤯 if you will! At $4.50, this is definitely worth a try! End off the meal with a nice cup of avocado milk 🥑!
My previous impression of braised duck is that it’s dry and does not have the flavours as compared to roasted duck but this place has proven me wrong. At $2.80, this has got to be one of the cheapest plate of duck rice that I’ve ever eaten and the full-on flavours absolutely stole the show. If you are wondering what are those rolls of gelatinous items, they are actually braised pig’s skin which I highly recommend you add if you are able to cross the fear factor stage as they are lipsmackingly good.
