Haven’t been to Amoy Street Food Centre often recently; that being said, we have been fairly intrigued by this rather recent addition to the second level which we have been eyeing on for quite a while. Life Coffee may look like a regular coffee stall on first sight — looking at their menu closely though, Life Coffee is more than just your average mom-and-pop Kopi and Teh stall however; apart from serving up Kopi and Teh alongside traditional kaya toast, Life Coffee belongs to a minority of such stalls within a hawker centre that also sells Banh Mi and Vietnamese-style coffee. The Banh Mi menu is fairly simple here; offering only two different types of Banh Mi, patrons can choose between the Banh Mi Ga (Roasted Chicken Baguette) and the Banh Mi Sai Gon (Ham and Pork Baguette); both of the Banh Mi are available in all-carte or in sets — the latter adding the patron’s choice of beverage to the Banh Mi that is opted.

Making our visit to Life Coffee for their Banh Mi, we opted for the Banh Mi Sai Gon; our choice of beverage was the Vietnamese Drip Coffee with Milk (Hot) — a $1 top-up for the set that is originally priced at $6. We were really impressed with the presentation of their food here; for dine-in orders, the Banh Mi would be served within a rattan basket — the same way that one would have expected if dining at a Vietnamese restaurant. Prepared fresh upon order, the folks of Life Coffee offered to deliver the order to our table when it was ready as we were seated close by to the stall. This was especially satisfying to have; not only was this one of the neatest Banh Mi that we have had this far, we also found this to be one that was better than what most Vietnamese restaurants seem to be able to serve up. Sinking our teeth into the baguette, we really loved how the baguette is sufficiently firm with a bite, yet carrying a light crispness on the exterior — the baguette seemed to have stayed intact without flaking into a crumbly mess as what would have happened usually. Stuffed in the middle would be the ham, barbecue pork, coriander, chili and pickled vegetables; all layered beautifully with care for a good texture that is all crunchy and meaty with a good bite. All that savoury meat and mix of vegetables provided for a multitude of flavours that went well with each other; the cucumbers, carrots, radish giving a refreshing respite from the meat and carbs going on in here. We were also impressed with the Vietnamese Drip Coffee with Milk here — there is a quite a bit of attention to detail here; the hot rendition of the Vietnamese Drip Coffee with Milk comes with a warm water bath to keep the temperature of the coffee warm, all that whilst the coffee comes all strong with a cocoa-esque flavour without being overly sweetened.

Life Coffee is one of those stalls that one would probably miss out on fairly easily — looking like just another one of those typical drink stalls that one can usually find in a hawker centre, it takes a little more for one to notice that Vietnamese touch that the stall has. While we were initially not expecting much out of the Banh Mi here, we were really impressed with what we have gotten — a really well-executed rendition that is well-designed to provide a good flavour and texture, as well as one that is especially neatly put together for a hassle-free dining experience that would go well with office workers that forms the main crowd of the diners at Amoy Street Food Centre during weekday lunch hours. With such delicious Banh Mi and great Vietnamese Drip Coffee being served here, Life Coffee is one of the spots that we would be looking forward to returning to for a light lunch at Amoy Street Food Centre!
