A special dish from this Chinese restaurant at Jalan ipoh that require a longer cooking time. The aunty that took our order recommend us to try out this dish and we are glad that we did order this.

Made with fish, prawn and topped with fresh coconut flesh, this otak-otak is so yummy.

Comfort food at it best. The signature lychee smoked duck and pork belly. Tender, juicy with a hint of sweetness from the lychee. I doesn't know smoked duck in a Chinese restaurant can be this good.

Any photos here will surely have you salivate for days! Just no-fluff, generously-plated Chinese food, Laomazis offers many home-style dishes that are a fusion of both Hakka and other Chinese cuisines. The restaurant is also popular for one particular dish - the Cincai Steamed Fish. “This “Cincai” Steamed Fish was conceived when one of the chef’s friends stopped by and asked the chef to cook a fish dish. Chef decide to put a little bit of everything (ginger, scallions, rice wine, soy sauce, bean paste, etc.) and steamed the fish together. When presented the dish, his friend loved it and asked the name of the dish. The chef just said “ Cincai”! And there you have it.”, as explained by our funny and #foreverhungry Tastemaker Brian Leow. And it’s seriously, downright delicious!
Once you discover this hidden gem (literally hidden!), you’ll want to be back here every other week.

Explore the nooks of Wisma Yoon Cheng along Jalan Ipoh to find homey Lao Ma Zi's. The family-run restaurant prides themselves on their Smoked Platter (RM52), an unusual but smashing combination of smoked duck and pork belly with lychees. The tasty duck, tender and fragrant of lychee juice, is only available upon reservation so make sure to call ahead! Also savour the 'Cincai' Steamed Fish (Avg price: RM60). The idea for this hearty, delish fish dish came along when a customer asked the chef for a new fish dish, and the incidental recipe has become the restaurant's signature since. Be sure to get a hold of co-owner Juliet for a firsthand account of the venue's quaint history!

This place is an ideal food destination for a little taste of home and a hearty meal. A hidden gem smack in the middle of the city. Be sure to order the 'Rice Wine Egg Soup' and 'Salted Egg Soft Shell Crab'. 😋

Lunch done right at a hidden gem serving cheap and good home cooked cuisine with a twist in Jalan Ipoh. This smoked duck platter has got to be one of my favourite home cooked dishes in Lao Ma Zi's Restaurant. The smoked duck and pork belly slices immersed in lychee broth were so tender and juicy, it definitely caught me off guard.
