More Reviews of good food at Tendon Kohaku (Suntec City)

Visited Tendon Kohaku @ Suntec City for a Thursday Lunch and ordered (1) Kohaku Tendon Set, (2) Chawanmushi, and (3) Ice Lemon Tea. The Kohaku Tendon Set includes: 2x Prawn, 2x French Beans, 1x Chicken Breast, 1x Squid, 1x Pumpkin, 1x Baby Corn, 1x Crab Stick, and 1x Shiitake Mushroom. It also came with a complimentary Miso Soup with a Rice option to choose between a Japanese White Rice or a Japanese Multi Grain, with a Sauce option to choose between Original, Spicy, or Mala Sauce. I chose Japanese White Rice and Original Sauce.

Ambience: 6/10 (for a lunch with your colleague)
It is a decent spot to have a lunch with your colleagues - very cosy and comfortable with a great atmosphere that will invite conversation filled with fun and laughter.

Service: 2/10
It saddens me to say this but the customer service was far from pleasant. The staff was very unwilling to accomodate to the additional requests that we had and always gave a vibe that she was trying to chase us out of the restaurant. For instance, my colleague had a request to have less ice in his cup and switch his ice lemon tea to a coca-cola. However, upon hearing our request, the staff frowned, took the items, and stomped away in a jiffy. This touchpoint with the staff left us so confused as it wasn't a very unreasonable request. Going into the meal - around 15 minutes in, one of my colleague who was a very fast eater had already finished his Kohaku Tendon Set. The same staff came over, cleared his plate very loudly while the rest of us was still eating - almost seemingly intentionally to signal us that we should be on our way soon, and walked away. At this point, I was left a touched annoyed as I felt that this was not how customers should be treated. Nevertheless, I brushed it off as my own sensitivity. But after another 15 minutes later, the same staff came over to us and asked if she could clear all our plates as she, i quote, "needs the table". At this point I have only just finished the Tendon Kohaku, halfway through the Chawanmushi, and have yet to begin drinking the Ice Lemon Tea. In fact, it has only been slightly over 30 minutes since we have begun our meals. Thus, this entire customer service experience I've received at Tendon Kohaku @ Suntec City left me extremely disappointed.

Flavour: 8/10
This is the best Tendon that I've eaten at this price point in Singapore hands down thus far. The quality of the ingredients and the flavours were impeccable. The batter was light and crispy throughout, the flavours of the vegetables were elevated, brilliantly executed, satisfying, and tasted garden-fresh (yes, it was THAT good), while the chicken breast was moist and tender. The chicken breast especially surprised me because you would typically expect it to taste slightly on the drier side as it is not a fatty cut of the meat. The Chawanmushi and Miso Soup taste about what you would expect of the dish.

Overall, the flavours took me by storm as the dish was truly very well-executed. This would have been a thousand-percent-return-again restaurant if not for the horrible customer service experience.

One of the better tendon restaurants in SG food and price-wise. Only been here a couple of times but the quality never wavers.

The Kohaku Tendon bowl has (straight from the menu) 2 prawns, a squid, a pair of french beans, pumpkin, baby corn, shitake, chicken breast, and crabmeat stick. The prawns are very fresh and soft. Squid is cooked perfectly and not tough at all. All the veggies are prepared well - the combination has a good taste balance as well. Loved the pumpkin specifically as it has the right amount of sweetness. Chicken breast could be less cooked as it’s bordering dry. Batter is commendable - thin but still provides crisp, and not oily at all

Overall a good dish ✨

Tried the unique Mala Kohaku Tendon, the tempura is nicely fried and is crispy yet not too dry. The mala sauce is mild tasting, not too spicy buy adds a nice hint of aroma that goes well with the tempura pieces. Overall a nice sinful bowl of ricebowl!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Seafood tendon from @tendonkohaku_sg had a good amount of crispy tempura seafood items and ikura to add little bursts of flavour. Added a tempura egg too! 😋

Been some time since I was back at Kohaku, and I am glad that the quality remained as good! I got the Kohaku Tendon ($14.80) and there was a good mix of meats, seafood and vegetables. I loved how the batter weren't too greasy and remained crispy throughout! The ingredients used were really fresh 😍 the chicken breast meat was so juicy and flavourful; indeed one of the best tendons in Singapore!

same quality, same taste, every time.

Came for the tempura, stayed for the rice. You get to choose between Nanatsuboshi Hokkaido White Rice and 16 Multigrains Rice at no extra charge. Both options have its unique fragrance that elevated the simple tendon to the next level.
Tempura was not as crispy as we had hoped. The batter also came off from the meat/vegetable so it was not a coherent bite.

For those times when only a substantial meal will satisfy the hunger pangs, this is a well-priced (15++) and tasty solution. Chose the standard Kohaku tendon but with the (not so) spicy sauce and multi grain rice. Good mix of ingredients and efficient service.

Tendon Kohaku’s Original Tendon (S$15++) is always a treat. The batter here is light and the sauce isn’t cloyingly sweet. One of the better tendons I’ve had here in Singapore.

Tendon Kohaku’s premium seasonal tendon for S$23++ contains wood smoked chicken, long beans, prawn, eggplant, and bacon tempura, and is served with half bowl of mixed chirashi and an onsen egg. We frequent Tendon Kohaku fairly often and their tempura never disappoints. This wood smoked offering provided a subtle but welcomed twist to the original tendon. Worth the money!

Feeling as though we are on Cloud Nine!

A combination of fresh sashimi and signature tempura ingredients including soft-shell crab and streaky bacon, Cloud Nine Tendon is the first of their Premium tendon. Drizzled in a specially concocted smokey sauce and smoked with Sakura wood chips, it’s an intoxicating experience that is worth trying.

Exclusive to Suntec outlet after 2pm~

We were constantly intrigued by the snaking queue formed outside this shop and finally understood why when we tried it ourselves.

Their generously portioned tendon came with two large prawn tempura and an assortment of other deep fried goodness like squid, chicken breast, mushroom and vegetables. Each ingredient was lightly battered and fried perfectly till golden brown. The tempura were super crispy and goes perfectly with the sweet and savoury sauce that was drizzled over them. Coupled with the soft multi-grain rice, this bowl of tendon is so simple yet satisfying! We would highly recommend people who love tempura to give this a try. Do consider visiting ahead of the dinner time to avoid the crowd!

I guess @kohakutendon needs no introduction, but did you know they started selling their yummy😋 affordable tendon at @eatat7 @sunteccity since 2016?

👉SG55 Tendon (Seasonal) - SGD18
Sakura Ebi, Princess Bamboo Shoot, Seared Skipjack, Kailan, Broad Beans, Prawn, Chicken Breast, Small Scallop, Mentai Mayo
👉Kohaku Tendon - SGD15
Vegetables, Chicken, Prawn & Other Seafood

My only complaint😔 is that their fried tempura ingredients were slightly leading towards the oily side. But other than that, I really enjoyed this😋👍.

P.S. Please note that the SG55 Tendon is no longer ❌ available. You may still check out their premium seasonal tendon, which will be available after 2PM daily, starting this Friday (16th Oct 2020) at their flagship store in @sunteccity.

Beautiful🦋

I expected it to taste greasy and was ready to embrace it but no!! It was happiness in every bite. Got to taste the layers of flavours trapped in each tempura which was completed by the slightly sweet drizzle of the non-spicy sauce.

The multigrain rice was really tasty itself that I had to add on another bowl🙈🙈

I felt so thankful after this meal☺️

$15++ | Definitely one of the best and most affordable tendon in town. Generous with their portion and served hot! Staffs were very friendly and accommodative to my request to change the prawns to chicken breast as I was allergic.

Been here ample times!!! Super filling, satisfying meal yet feeling guilty each time I finished the meal...😂

Like the thinly flour coated tempura, prawns, squid, chicken breast, mushroom, vege etc, yummy!

The 16 multigrain rice is also my usual choice, less boring than plain Japanese rice, and feels healthier~

Would recommend the spicy sauce one, adding flavours to the don and not that spicy to be honest...

SO GOOOOD!!! Perfectly crispy crunchy shells to every piece of vegetable, drizzled with a sweet savoury sauce on a bed of grain DEFINED rice. What more can you ask for ?? ❤

Now I understand why this is so highly raves about. You get an assortment of tempura- vegetable, seafood, meat and fish at the price of $15. What more can you ask for? I particularly enjoyed the mushroom and the prawn. The flavours are locked in and one bite into it you can taste that sweetness and saltiness all rolled into one. The spicy sauce just completes the whole meal and now your tongue is dancing with joy. Need I say more? You should definitely give this a shot.
