One of my favourite bars with delicious and decently priced food!! A must try would be the Hatten Cheese ($8) this cheese fishcake dish is simple yet mindblowing - love the drinks here as well especially the umeshu ($8), very lovely ambience and perfect for date nights!

It’s quite a find for this japanese izakaya place along the whole stretch of boat quay! Very chill ambiance with super goood izakaya variety and they have rather reasonable priced sake on promotions. One of my favorite was this mentaiko udon with kimchi, simple but very light and refreshing, could just easily slurp the whole bowl down. Other than that must try their battered squid too! It’s amazingly good!

For $2.50 a chunk, it may seem overpriced. But the way they prepared it (24h marination) allowed the flavours to seep into all of the meat & skin. It simply slides off the bone. Called KFC (katanashi fried chicken), it may trump the original one.

Also, A+ for service, value and views here

This is the pre-stirred unagi Don, after which it felt like unagi fried rice. I would have preferred to have kept the unagi chunks instead of having it meshed. Though, I must say nothing can go wrong with clay pot crisp rice (with unagi!) -~$17.90

A fuss free served cold ramen, its very tangy and slightly mentaiko tasting. The thick slices of meat is remarkably one of the most tender and flavourful. Apart from the sneaky ginger slices, I would totally order the same again. (~$12.90) a good meal alongside the bay

Had unatama don (grilled eel with beaten egg), edmame and drink (side dish & drink). The portion is big and the eel goes well with the sweet soy sauce. Felt pretty satisfied after having it for lunch. It is pretty popular during lunch time to be prepared to queue if you come at 12:30.

Katanashi offers lunch deals at $12 and you can top up $3 for a side and a drink. This was the daily special which has fried fish with tar tar sauce. The fish was crispy and goes very well with the tar tar sauce too.

Another great CBD haunt, Katanashi has really affordable lunch time sashimi bowls for just $10! However, we decided to splurge and got the Hokkaido Bowl, which comes with thick slices of salmon, scallop, ikura, tobiko, crab meat, negi, and seaweed. The lunch set also includes a miso soup and coleslaw, so it’s really value for money. I loved the sashimi - it was fresh, generously sliced, and amazing. They really don’t skimp on anything here. (Our rice was just a bit mushy on this day, however.) Would definitely come here if I were craving for Japanese food during a work week!

Can't beat the freshness and portion at 12 nett. Would definitely make this a regular lunch venue if I'm working in the CBD again

Another must order would be their Gyusuji Daikon which is simmered beef tendon served with white radish. The beef tendon instantly melts in your mouth, while the daikon that is cooked with the stew absorbs the remaining juices, allowing for sweet bites in between.

One of the favourites from the meal was the Ankimo (Monkfish Liver) served with Mentaiko, Truffle Oil and toast. This was on their specials menu, which meant that it’s limited for a short period of time.

The combination of the perfectly seared ankimo, paired with the salty mentaiko and drizzled with truffle oil was a mini party in my mouth as the flavours were a symphony to my tastebuds.

Apart from that, the potato mochi was another addictive snack which I’d call dips for the next time I head there.

Lastly, the Salmon Butter Gohan ($18.90) comes with salmon sashimi, butter, mentaiko and soy sauce served in a hot stone bowl. Feel free to mix it up on your own or get the staff to help you with it and enjoy the aroma and of course, the taste of the finished product.

These potato mochi balls are perhaps God-sent snacks, because they are amazing.

The chewy texture of mochi, paired with smoothed out mashed potatoes coats a cheesy center, which oozes out slowly upon impact.

Pair it with the pepper honey sauce that comes with it and you’d get an addictive bar bite that you would want to scream “all mine” before anyone else touches it.

This is trouble for my diet but good news for my tastebuds. We're talking crunchy fried chicken chunks doused in sweet teriyaki and mayo, then placed on a bowl of steaming hot rice. This Take no prisoners style of food makes for a good comfort lunch 😋😋😋

But the amount of egg omlette given has GREATLY reduced. In its place is some pickled veg instead 😐 #katanashi #burpple #burpplesg

This bowl was so good! The chicken was crunchy and the soft boiled egg oozed so beautifully. I sat right by the river outside. So romantic on a hot afternoon.

Love Katanashi's lunch deals. For $12 you get a bowl of deliciousness and a nice view of boat quay. Negitoro was fresh and generous, and the spring onions add a nice bite when eaten together with the tuna.

Lunch set comes with soup and a steamed egg, which filled me up well!

Still around after all these years so they must be doing something right ! Several rice bowl options for lunch, mostly $12 except the beef or Hokkaido don (pictured) which are $15 each. Comes with chilled chawanmushi and miso soup.

I care more about what I'm served at lunch. Katanashi at Boat Quay has been one of the more consistent Japanese restaurants. Serving affordable lunch time sets, with a daily special don. Mine was barachirashi don with large chunks of maguro, salmon and avocado, plentiful of fish roes and an onsen egg. When are you having yours? 😋

The chicken were crispy and doused with the sauces. The soft boil egg puts the final touches in bringing this don together. #burpple
