Ban Mian/ Mee Hoon Kway with Wok Hei Taste!
The most unique ban mian stall in Singapore is this! Their soup has a wok hei taste (slightly burnt flavour). It is a love or hate relationship with this unique soup! I super love their chewy banmian and mee hoon kway! Have since came to eat it 3 times already!
They have various outlets in Singapore!
I visited the one at 177 Bukit Batok West Ave. 8, Singapore 650177!
ordered their recommended Signature All-In Combo Mee Hoon Kway. Their Signature with All-In basically comprises all the ingredients of other items on the menu. It comprises of Minced Pork, Pork Slices, Pork Ball as well as Shrimp Ball, served in either dry or soup version.
I opt for the soup version and it came with fried ikan billis to complement the taste. The Mee Hoon Kueh slices were velvetly smooth and not too doughy with some charred taste.
The pork slices were tender and went well with the chilli. Though the meatball was well marinated and contains a distinctive flavour, dipping them into the garlicky and piquant chilli definitely enhances its taste.
Though it is said to be of quality made and each component in the bowl was done well, making up a comforting bowl of Mee Hoon Kway, my heart on Mee Hoon Kway still goes to L32 Handmade Noodles for their broth and chilli are packed with my childhood memories, closer to my taste buds.
The signature comes with abit of minced meat, 2 pork slices, 1 pork ball and 1 prawn ball. I felt that the mee hoon kueh pieces were too big. The soup also had a burnt smell, not sure if it was normal. Overall, it is an average mee hoon kueh.
You notice no one gets the dry one, for good reason. It's absolutely tasteless
Standards have slipped significantly, the soup wasn't super eggy, the chili was so damn diluted. The prawn balls were loose and not bouncy. The wok hei is severely reduced(this might be a good thing, I disdain their dirty wok hei)
Maybe we will try again next time and report if this is permanent
Signature All-in Combo Mee Hoon Kueh with Minced Pork, Pork Slices, Pork Ball and Shrimp Ball ($5.50) - Soup
Their soup is pretty flavourful, with a slight wok-hei flavour, and I liked that the pork was tender. Mee Hoon Kueh texture is slightly QQ as well.
Ex-masterchef Finalist Aaron opened @jiak_song, with a total of 7 outlets islandwide currently, and accessible to those in the East, West, and Central!
Ban Mian with Minced Pork, Pork Slices and Pork Balls ($5) - Dry
Loved how there's this smokey fragrance in the noodles, and the noodles were also pretty al-dente and QQ, the way I love my noodles!
