Quite the line-up from ISHI’s Ulala lunch set ($80), I really enjoyed all the offerings - nothing overly fancy but each dish was well-executed. For the starter, it was a tangy number with the delicate Medai (Japanese Butterfish) served with a light ponzu sauce and grated radish. Next, for the 7 piece sushi course, there were the young sea bream, botan ebi, yellowtail, aburi medai, akami marinated with soya sauce and topped with yuzu peel, smoked Spanish mackerel with mustard seed, and lastly a melty chutoro. Each nigiri was exquisite and lightly dressed to accentuate the natural flavours of the ingredient. Their shari (vinegared rice) was also nicely balanced and served to highlight the yummy cuts.
My friend and I also got their Wagyu Beef Steak ($68/100g) to share. Sweet, savoury and beefy, the protein was presented in the most intriguing way as they arrived as bite-sized rolls. Served with crisp Hokkaido garlic and snow salt, the thin cut was uber melty, succulent and tender. Although the portion was indeed small(pictured is 50g), the beautifully marbled and lusciously fatty beef was something to savour slowly.
Known to be a firm favourite at ISHI, their Special Rice Bowl, at a supplement of $40, was really indulgent. Loaded with tons of chopped tuna, the bowl was completed with leek, pickled radish, ebi (as they were out of their usual hand picked seasonal crab), house marinated salmon roe, and fresh sea urchin. Brimming with all the seafood-y goodness, the umami flavours came out a little strong for me but well worth the splurge as it was a relatively generous serving. Texture-wise, I would have preferred it more if they added some crunch.
Not to forget the super soft jiggly mochi dessert that made for a good end to the meal.

Part 3
Dessert was the softest Warabi Mochi I had and certainly didn't expect to be surprised again after the splendid mains.
