๐Ÿ’ฌ My go to ramen place with rich and flavourful broth. Shio Ramen ($14.50++) Also ordered the Tokusen Toroniku Ramen ($23++), the pork cheeks are succulent and kind of melts in your mouth. Would probably give the aburi tokusen a try next time for more flavour.

An S$18.50 bowl of piping hot Aburi Toroniku Spicy Shio Ramen was something that I usually would not order, but I was glad that I did. The (mildly) spicy Shio broth was rich and it went well with the firm texture of the Ramen. Three slices of flame-grilled pork cheeks were just enough to make this meal feel complete, though I might want to add on more spring onions to balance the flavours.

We realised that Santouka had done away with their previous lunch set menu, which made lunching there pretty worthwhile. While the previous lunch set offered you a small ramen bowl and a small rice bowl, now you only have one option: ramen (can be small or medium) with a plate of gyoza! Nonetheless, you can still choose your ramen broth and you have the options with shio, Kara shio, shoyu, miso or Kara miso.

We decided to get the set in any case as it came with a drink and I got the shoyu ramen for a stronger flavour! However, the ramen was pretty ordinary and the slices of pork were a little tough. :( The noodles were decent and of the right texture though - they were firm and not overly soggy. Note that the ramen itself doesn't come with the ramen egg and you have to pay an additional $1.50++ to add one! ๐Ÿ˜‘

We think it would be better to try what Santouka is famous for: their pork cheek (toroniku) ramen, even though it is no longer included in their lunch set meals. The pork cheeks were so soft and tender and we think the meat paired really well with Santouka's ramen. It's $22++ for a bowl but we think it's worth the upgrade from the $17++ we paid for the lunch set meal since the standard ramen we had today was a little meh... ๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿ’ฌ Let's be honest, no one comes to santouka just for the ramen. The star of this place is their tokusen toroniku. Just look at it glisten oh my porky god. Each slice has slivers of fat intricately woven in between each strand of meat, making it extremely tender. Best way to savour these iberico pork cheeks would be to dip them into your broth and let the heat melt the fats a little more- unlocking even more flavour. The noodles here are thin and always cooked al dente. The broth is a mixture of tonkotsu and shoyu which I found rather light and easy to drink but flavour-wise nothing out of the ordinary. Come here to get your toroniku fix!

Roasted pork cheeks which were tender and of right fatness were served on the side. This is still my go to ramen.

Saltiness from ikura mixes well with the salmon flakes. Rice was a little dry but overall still a simple yet heart warming dish.
