This new gelato shop has just recently open along the touristy Arab Street, which is occupied mostly by the tourists when I came.

All the gelato flavours and ingredients are sourced from Italy, I can say it is true because I could see the boxes of ingredients at the back of the shop; which indicates from Italy.

Offer lots of flavours on display and I chosen a more refreshing fruit flavour with peach sorbet.

Got to know about the new Gelato Garden that had recently opened their doors along the buzzy Haji Lane in the Kampong Glam neighbourhood. The establishment itself is housed in a rather tight shop space that can only be described as pretty typical of the shophouses located in that area. What seemingly caught our attention whilst whizzing through the area at Gelato Garden was the “front porch” of the shophouse unit that it is situated in — one can find a plastic fixture of a colourful ice-cream cone fitted on the wall as part of the decor before one steps into the shop via the entrance further inside. Whisk the tagline mentions “Freshly Made Daily” and “Ingredients from Italy since 1940”, we aren’t really able to find anything about the brand that leads towards the latter statement. There really aren’t many seatings for dine-in patrons with the store; there are two tables with rather small chairs where one can have their gelato within the premises, whilst a row of plastic seats can also be found lined-up around the area near the entrance for patrons to sit around — though without any tables. As the namesake of the establishment suggests, Gelato Garden is an establishment that centres around its gelato offerings — their gelato being kept in automated tubs that folds the gelato as and when it is required; a thing that Gelato Garden seems to take quite a bit of pride in apart from how it aspires to bring vibes of “Vivoli Florence” through their gelato creations.

Skimming through the flavours of gelato that Gelato Garden offers on their menu, we did most of the flavours served up at Gelato Garden to be rather conventional — there are also some such as the Mint Chocolate that feels like an item that is more of a common find in more commercialised gelato parlours than indie-run ones here. There are however two flavours of the gelato that had caught our attention whilst we were skimming through what they have to offer in those tubs; the Caramel Butter and the Peach Oolong — the latte of which being the one which we decided to go for. We would say that we weren’t expecting a lot out of the gelato especially given how the entire set-up of Gelato Garden felt; that being said, we were surprised with how they serve their gelato in a way that is lathered onto the cone much like how an actual Italian gelato parlour would do it; the notes of Oolong tea is certainly quite evident throughout the entire scoop that we were served with, with a very light hint of refreshing peach that runs at the back of the tongue. The handmade cones do indeed seem to be made fresh in-house here — at least there were waffle machines used to make liege waffles that can be found at the back of the food preparation area. These were made in a form that is longer than the usual cone — think something more akin to those that MiXue serves up though the ones at Gelato Garden are a tad shorter in comparison; the handmade cone being a little sweet but is otherwise pretty crisp otherwise. As with most places serving up gelato along Haji Lane, the prices of the gelato at Gelato Garden are priced a little bit on the higher side especially with portion of gelato that they scoop per serving. That being said, their Gelato would probably still serve well for those looking for a cool treat to have whilst touring around the island in the sweltering heat.
