It has been a โ€œhot minuteโ€ since I have had Flourcrafts and I am glad to report that their Canelรฉs are as lovely as I remembered. The Vanilla Creme Brulee being my fav of the lot! Just by the sheer amount of vanilla specks, you know it is gonna be good.

Have heard quite a fair bit about Flourcraft Patisserie of the late โ€” having started as one of those home-based bakers that was all the rage during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Flourcrafts Patisserie is an establishment that has come quite a long way since. Being a name with an emphasis on their artisanal Caneles and other confections, Flourcrafts Patisserie became a more recognisable brand after its pop-up stint at BakerX @ Orchard Central โ€” a baking studio and cafe that is run by Far East Organisation to support home-based bakers by featuring different home-based bakers to operate within its premises for a short period of time, allowing these home-based bakers an opportunity to have a go on operating a cafe without committing to the cost of running a permanent establishment. Since then, Flourcrafts Patisserie had since opened their own brick-and-mortar shop space within EON Shenton at 70 Shenton Way โ€” the same building also houses other notable establishments like abseil and Double Shot Coffee; the space being more suited for order collection and quick grab-and-go for their Caneles and other bakes, considering that there is no dine-in space within its premises. During the day of our visit, Flourcrafts Patisserie was serving up a line-up of its artisan Caneles in several flavours, as well as a small variety of tarts.

Having skimmed through the range of flavours which they have to offer for their Caneles, we found ourselves going for a box of four (4) Caneles, opting for the flavours as follows:

- Signature Vanilla Rum;
- Baileys Rocher;
- Taro; and
- Earl Grey

Amongst the four flavours that we have opted for, the Signature Vanilla Rum Canele would needlessly be the one that Canele purists should go for โ€” being the basic Canele that comes without all the fuss, the Signature Vanilla Rum Canele exemplifies the skill of the folks at Flourcraft Patisserie in the making the classic Canele. We would say that the Signature Vanilla Rum Canele is probably one of the better renditions of the classic Canele out there โ€” coming in a decent size, the Signature Vanilla Rum Canele was what one would expect; that crusty brown exterior that comes with a soft, somewhat moist, kueh-like interior within, it is nothing short of being reasonably sweet and chewy, yet comes with a hint of vanilla fragrance and that slight booziness from the rum in its undertones. For those who are into something less sweet, the Taro Canele might be the one to go for instead; featuring a taro mousse that is piped into the Canele as well as over the top, the Taro Canele also features a purple-hued interior โ€” a constant theme that seems to run across their various flavours where the interior of the Canele adopts a different colour based on the flavour it is. The taro mousse is reminiscent to that of Orh Nee (i.e. yam paste) in pastry cream format; the emphasis being on the earthiness of the yam rather than being on providing a sweetness to the Canele itself, therefore making it a less sweet alternative to the other flavours that they have to offer whilst retaining that same texture that came with the Signature Vanilla Rum Canele. Between the Earl Grey Canele and the Bailey Rocher Canele, our preference would be for the former โ€” perhaps it may be due to the inclusion of the alcohol with a glaze element, but the Bailey Rocher Caneleโ€™s exterior felt a little limp when compared to the rest of the flavours.

Flourcrafts Patisserie is one of those home-based bakers which is pretty much of a success story despite being a business that was born out of the pandemic โ€” one that might not be quite as big as some other businesses which are garnering queues and constantly being mentioned on social media or the mainstream media, but one that is still worth looking at considering how they have made incremental steps in its progress over time. Much of its current popularity could likely be attributed to its stint at BakerX @ Orchard Central โ€” the opportunity that gave Flourcrafts Patisserie exposure to the wider public through dine-in operations that helped to establish a brand presence. Having only tried their Caneles, we also felt that Flourcrafts Patisserie seems to take good pride in their craft, whilst their creations also seem to showcase their skills as well. Whilst there are commercial establishments which serves up Canele that are limp on the exterior and dry inside which are difficult to down, the Canele from Flourcraft Patisserie are well-executed despite coming in quite a substantial size โ€” something which we felt could rival that of what the now-defunct Le Canele d'Or at The Concourse was previously offering. It is without a doubt that the quality of the Canele also plays a part in their story; the word-of-mouth recommendations to new patrons, as well as returning patrons who have tried them before. Given how their Caneles are, we would see ourselves returning to Flourcrafts Patisserie for more โ€” especially so if they ever intend to offer more inventive flavours with their Caneles in time to come!

๐๐ฅ๐š๐œ๐ค ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฌ๐š๐ฆ๐ž ๐๐š๐ข๐Ÿ๐ฎ๐ค๐ฎ ๐ญ๐š๐ซ๐ญ ($9) - One for the lovers of black sesame with the rich nutty and earthy flavour in a firm buttery tart. Enjoyed the mix with chewy and soft mochi bits and creamy sesame daifuku.

๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐œ๐ก๐ข๐จ ๐ญ๐š๐ซ๐ญ ($9) - Nutty and smooth pistachio ganache paired with light pistachio cream and raspberry. If nitpicking, would have preferred for more berry compote for a better balance.

๐‚๐š๐ง๐ž๐ฅ๐ž - Among the better versions around with its consistently firm crust and soft chewy interior. The classic signature ($4.50) garners our love with its distinct sweet and oaky rum aroma. Both matcha ($4.80) and pistachio ($5.50) were as per stated flavour, with added creamy and rich fillings.
