Co-owned by brothers Maurice and Robert Biancolin, the world famous Carousel Bakery which is on the second level of the St. Lawrence Market (a destination in itself) is the home of the “Peameal Bacon Bun Sandwich”.
Beloved by many, including rapper Drake, celebrity chefs Emeril Lagasse and Bobby Flay, as well as the late Anthony Bourdain, it is composed of only two parts: a few thick slices of their Canadian bacon, that is, house-cured pork loin coated in pea meal and a big country bun.
You get to choose how you like to dress it by mixing and matching the condiments lined up on the counter. A few people like @sootchie, prefer to keep it really simple with just a squirt of mustard. Being a first-time visitor, I tried every bite with something different. Such is the luxury of being there in the late afternoon when the place isn’t packed.
