Sometimes I ponder. What is on your mind when you see a food post? What is your preference? Would you like to know where are the delish affordable hawker foods? Or would you like to go for a more upmarket kind of dining? Your thots?

My birthday is round the corner and every year my celebrations start early. This year, I do things differently. Instead of expensive dining, I am zooming in on our local hawkers. Today's visit to @ron.chef who specialised in Ipoh inspired cuisine. This is Ipoh style curry noodle. The gravy is less thick than our local curry. The rempah to misen place the gravy are homemade. It is aromatic with a spicyness that lingers on comfortably on the palate. Garnished with chicken pieces, roasted pork belly and bits of mackerel. Even though the pork belly was outsourced, it was still tasty as it had a crisp crackling skin. Adding the mackerel was a nice touch as it gave that extra seafoody flavor to balance off the meatyness.

I spent a few minutes chatting with Chef Ron who gave up his corporate job to go into F&B. What was sad to hear that he might just give up what he started. For sure he has passion. But sadly sometimes passion cant pay bills as I was told by another chef I know. Chef Ron's food includes nasi lemak, simple but yet comforting. If you are around Maxwell hawker centre, please do show some support for the new generation of hawker like Chef Ron who is trying to eke out an honest living. Yes there are the michelin star hawkers but support is preferably evenly spread out. If not hawker food will be a thing of the past.
