The name Boyutei draws inspirations and influences from the Japanese kanji characters忘忧亭, which means a pavilion or tranquil spot where you can forget your sorrows over drinks and food. The menu revolves around savoury items such as salads, soups, Japanese sandos, rice, noodles and crepes crafted by Whitegrass’ Head Chef Takuya Yamashita and, desserts and beverages by master tea artisans Hvala.

From the savoury section, expect a range of Japanese French fusion dishes such as the sandos of Wagyu Sukiyaki Tamago Sando ($24) and Ebi Katsu Sando ($22), the latter a favourite among the diners with a thick cut of ebi prawn cake that is deep fried to golden crunch and sandwiched between a brioche thick toast with tartar sauce, tomatoes, cabbage, and a homemade chilli drizzle. The selection of rice and noodles include the Cha Soba ($24) and Niku Miso Chazuke ($18), with the former containing grilled unagi fish and kinshi tamago while the latter is a rice dish with moromi miso flavoured minced beef and poured over a dashi broth.

If you are here for the crepes, there are the savoury and sweet ones to appeal to all. The Seafood Mentaiko Crepe ($22) comes with an assortment of ingredients such as prawn, squid, and bacon with a mentaiko mayo dressing. My personal favourite will be the Goma Matcha Crepe ($14) that is for all matcha lovers with the matcha pastry cream, homemade matcha ice cream and finished with goma crumble. There are even plated desserts such as the Black Forest Tart ($17) that is heated up upon order and contains a molten dark chocolate filling with a kirsh cherry compote. To go alongside all these sweet and savoury flavours, do not miss out on Hvala’s signature Matcha Latte ($9) that is freshly whisked and layered onto fresh milk or a glass of Sakura Smoked Black Tea ($12) that has faint notes of Sakura and hints of sour cherry.
