Price has increased to $9.50, but this is still a stall I would frequent. Generous slab of salmon (loved how they cooked it such that the skin is crisp). Pickles and miso soup to complement. Sweet sauce to counter the savoury taste, and definitely the star has got to be the mentaiko sauce which was served in generous amounts.

What's most disappointing was the deep-fried fish. Never deep-fry salmon, especially if you're pairing it with mentai. The result didn't make sense. However, the mentai and donburi sauce salvaged the dish. Overall, $9 for this in a coffeeshop is a fail.

Salmon Mentai Don was pretty good, but I find the sauce was quite salty. Bf ordered Unagi Tama Don ($8.80) and he loves it, unagi was cooked perfectly. Tbh I also preferred the Unagi Tama Don more.

We also got the Donya Maki ($5.80) to share. It was a pretty good dinner πŸ‘πŸ»

Sharing both their food and their story with the heartlands in toa payoh - making fancy Japanese dishes affordable for the masses. From seeing the torched mentaiko, it's irresistible smell, and digging in to the generous mentaiko paired with nicely done salmon (crisp skin, tender flesh) - it's a winner. ($8.80)

This place is about a 5mins walk from Braddell mrt

Also happy that they now have an outlet in bugis!

$5.8 for this chicken katsu don! This place is part of a coffee shop. The food is really decent for the price and the people serving us were so nice! We were one of the last customers for the day so they gave us some bonus things on top of what we ordered and we were so pleasantly surprised :”) Will be back to try more dishes for sure!

Went for my usual fix of salmon mentai don! Love how crispy the salmon skin is, and how the saltiness of the mentai compliments the the sauce poured over the rice! The sauce can get a little salty, but you can always request for less sauce. I also like how they torched the mentai to give it a smoky flavour. Don comes with a free miso soup, great to finish the don with!

Very affordable!

Located at a coffee shop, the ingredients provided are fresh and quite generous. Felt that the rolls had slightly too much rice with little ingredients but the generous mentaiko sauce partially made up for it!

All is good in term of quantity & waiting time, but we feel quality of Chicken Katsu Don $5.80 & Chicken Teriyaki Don $6.80 can be improved. The rice is too soaked at the bottom of the bowl. Taking notice closely in the lower bowl, one piece of chicken teriyaki skin is too charred.πŸ˜“πŸ˜¬

For a relatively affordable price ($5.80), its standard is considered decent. They also serve good Oyako Don with generous servings of chicken and egg. A go-to for Japanese food lovers with a budget.

Big portion, generous with the mentai sauce, but not much of a wow factor.

Very generous mentaiko sauce for the price! Salmon wasn't as impressive but would definitely come back for more!

Found this stall at a coffee shop in toa payoh. This costs $8.80 only- a big fat slice of fried salmon with loads of mentai. Taste decent but extremely affordable prices. Other things to try: their donya maki and salmon maki. The latter costs $5.90.

Seems like I’m always eating from Donya? But it’s so convenient and yummy! πŸ˜‹

Super affordable Japanese rice bowls. I’m a huge lover of mentaiko so at $8.80 this is a steal. Decent piece of salmon and topped with a generous portion of mentaiko mayo.

The salmon I had was a little overcooked as it was a tad bit dry, but the mentaiko mayo made it palatable and I wish the rice was those pearly Japanese grains which is usually served in restaurants.

At this price tag, I’m not complaining. It tastes good, portion is decent, definitely better quality than most Japanese cuisines you find in other coffee shops or food courts.

Japanese rice bowls are all the rage now and Donya’s here to tickle your fancy. The salmon was grilled to tender perfection and carpeted with a layer of torched mentaiko sauce. The pollock roe (a tinge of salt, fishiness and the ocean) stands out starkly from the mayo, just enough but not overpowering. If I had any gripe at all, it’s merely that the miso soup and the teriyaki sauce coating the rice are a tad salty.

πŸ… 8/10
πŸ’ Definitely a donburi staple

Not outstanding, with the mentaiko sauce overpowering the roll, but still decent for the price!

I read a lot of good stuff about Donya on my feed and on the usual food websites and I was so excited to try it!!! 🀀 But this was honestly one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. And I've genuinely not felt so demoralised after eating in a long while. ☹️ We tried the Mentai Salmon Don and the Chicken Katsu Don. The Mentai Salmon Don was so dry and the sauce so sour. You would think the generous Aburi Mentai Mayo would patch my bleeding heart from having spent $8.80 on this bowl but some wounds can't be plastered over just like that. It was a torture to finish this bowl of rice and I only finished it because it was so expensive. The Chicken Katsu Don was hopefully a safer choice. But while the chicken was slightly thicker than normal food court katsu dons, the sauce was hopelessly bland and tasteless. The chicken was also rather bland and not well-seasoned at all. Even though it's quite affordable at $5.80, this is a price that makes my soul bleed too considering that the Koufu near my house does better Katsu Dons than this. You know, I really wanted this to be good since I travelled all the way to Toa Payoh for this. But it sucked. And I am incredibly heartbroken and disappointed and angry. πŸ’”

Donya is definitely a good place to check out for cheap and yummy Japanese dons, especially if you are around the neighbourhood. I’ve tried the Chicken Katsu Don ($5.80) as well as the Salmon Mentai Don ($8.80) but I’m always swaying back to the classic donburi! Comes with a complimentary bowl of miso soup if you dine in! πŸ˜‰

i must say i found the rice texture didn’t work well for me bc it was slightly too dry yet clumpy πŸ˜… and the mentai mayo was also more mayo than mentai in flavour! this made it slightly overpowering and jelat esp w the donburi sauce! however, they did make up for it in portion!! it was pretty generous and at its price point ($6.80) it’s real decent!!

the maki was slightly overpriced ($5.80) for its tiny size but the texture of the ebiko contrasts w the creamy mentai mayo, which encompasses the rice and core filling which made a pretty yummy mouthful :~)

been here before and i think i prefer the unagi tama and donya maki!! nonetheless i think it still does the job or satisfying jap cravings and it’s a notch above other jap stalls at its price point!!

Unagi Tama Don ($8.80) is my favourite from @donyasingapore with six pieces of unagi on a wet omelette. Biting into its charred and slightly crisp top gives way to sweet and fresh meat, ending with a lightly savoury aftertaste. The egg flavours most of the rice while locking in its moisture. Each layer of this donburi is delectable and each mouthful is a mix of textures, making this donburi just so comforting.
.
It may not look like much unagi, but it felt reasonable for its premium taste, as it’s imported from Taiwan and Japan.
