Crab Bee Hoon

34 Reviews

End it off with crabs! This is what we need on a gloomy raining day! πŸ¦€πŸ¦€
.

In the neighbourhood of Toa Payoh, the former Melben is now called Kelly Jie Seafood!

I love their signature Claypot Crab Beehoon Soup where they used crabs that were so fresh. The bubbling milky soup is packed with flavours and the natural sweetness of the crab makes it sooo addictive! Swipe left to see how fresh & big the crab is! Yummy!

Another interesting dish is Chilled Sweet and Sour Pork! It was covered with shaved ice when it was served. The skin is crispy and the sauce taste just right! Each bite comes with a layer of crispy coldness outside, followed by a warm & juicy meat inside. This combination really taste good!

Actually, the signature dish of this restaurant is Crab Vermicelli but we decided to try Creamy Butter Crab instead. The waitress asked which crab do we want, male or female. Since I love crab roe, I picked female one. Then she suggested this crab which is really good according to her so we trusted her.
When the dishes came, I tried the sauce first. Creamy butter sauce has a taste similar to Salted Egg sauce. Not quite like I imagined but it tasted okay. The crab itself was really tasty. Full of meat and roe as well. The only downside was I was not good in holding and opening the shells so my fingers gor hurt by the spike 😭
Truffle Pork Loin was great. It has a little hint of sourness from the lime. And, of course, the truffle tasted nice.
Chinese Cabbage was perfectly cooked. I like that it still has the crunchyness. Favorite!

This restaurant is formerly TPT Mellben seafood according to the sign. But it's been so long since I went to the original Melben that I can't remember if this is the same one or not πŸ˜… Anyway their food is really great, so for me doesn't matter what were they before πŸ˜‰ .

Formerly Mellben Seafood TPY, they have rebranded themselves in 2017 to be known as Kelly Jie Seafood. Among their renowned signature dishes, one of which is the β€œClaypot Crab Vermicelli Soup” - vermicelli served in a luscious, savoury thick milky broth with pure natural essence of crab.
Guess how heavy is the crab that was cooked in creamy butter?

Read so many great reviews from other Burpplers about this place that I had to try it out for myself when I'm in the area! & I was definitely not disappointed! 😍 Super super rich & flavorful broth that soaked into the beehoon. Crab was big, juicy, fresh & fat! The meat slipped right out the shell without much effort. Serves as a great comfort rainy day meal. ❀️ Space here is limited but crowd moves relatively fast. A good spot for a family meal that satisfies both the young & old.

Still haven't gotten over the tasty, creamy Crab Bee Hoon Soup ($60+) slurping up the thick bee hoon with bits of crab roe in the delicate, sweet crabby soup. Other dishes (the filo pastry prawn was lit) were really good too, but this has gotta be the mvp for that night. Extremely proud of this sg tzi char πŸ‘πŸ»

Excellent broth

Reached before their opening hours at 5pm. Queued for 30mins before sitting down. Then another 1 hour to go sitting at the tables. Long wait but worth for the tenderness of crab meat and flavourful broth with hint of butter and pepper.

Crab beehoon served in a claypot ($60): the soup was milky & tasty, infused with the sweetness from the crab meat. I like how unique this dish, great for sharing!
