Having tried this bowl of Chinese noodles, this is probably one of the most authentic I've had.

We got the medium portion of Beef Noodles ($6.50) which came in a generous amount of noodles and beef slices. Beneath all the ingredients lies a pool of dark spicy sauce which is probably what that keeps customers coming back again and again. The sauce has a deep chilli and vinegar flavour, with a strong touch of sichuan peppercorn! If you love your mala, this is the flavour you will like. As much as it gets spicy, it gets addictive as well! The noodles were pretty al dente and soaks up the sauce well. Beef slices were tender too! This is probably comfort food to many.

Dashao Chong Qing Xiao Mian 大少重庆小面 (#01-81) is a noodle stall in Upper Boon Keng Market and Food Centre. The Minced Meat Noodle 炸酱小面 ($4.50) comes with a mala option, which is quite rare. I opted for medium spicy (中辣) and it definitely adds a spicy and numbing kick (pretty potent!) to the sweet and savoury meat sauce. You can add a fried egg to your noodles for $0.50 and it turns out to be a must-add side I never knew I need😍 The egg fragrance and runny yolk complement the meat sauce and pull all the flavours together. I like the texture of the noodles, which is thin but firm. Overall, this 炸酱面 is quite unlike the other ones I have tried but still a pretty tasty and affordable bowl of noodles nonetheless:)
