Mutton Vindaloo 14.9++? This was my friends' favourite. Tender mutton with potatoes and a rather moreish gravy. However while this was filled with spices it's rather mild. Overall i guess this is a good introduction to Indian cuisine if you're afraid of something with heat yet want to try Indian cuisine. Since even the "spicy" option was very mild I guess anything on the menu is pretty safe. Also they mentioned everything is made fresh so that's laudable as well. But please please please remember to use the burpple deal else it's very overpriced.

Lamb Roganjosh 14.9++? Tbh I forgot which one was which between the mutton vindaloo and lamb roganjosh. However, those two curries were the only passable ones. They aren't anywhere near spicy so don't expect that when u read spicy on the menu. It's so mild it's literally drinkable. Then again I guess they tune their food to suit the "public" taste so that's why they are so raved about? I can't say I don't understand but when I visit a place w Indian curries I expect an authentic fiery mess with lots of spice. Either ways this was rather flavourful. Butter Chicken 14.9++? This was most definitely not the normal butter chicken lol. I can't even begin to point out the differences. It's really sweet and lacks savouriness. I guess it's fine if you don't come in expecting butter chicken. If you have an open mind you might actually appreciate it. It's so frustrating I can't decide whether I like it or hate it since it really deviates from normal butter chicken but still I had many spoonfuls of this

Naan Basket 14.9++ Consisting of butter plain herb and garlic by right but we got butter plain peshwari and the last one had both cilantro and garlic so I'm not sure if it was supposed to be garlic or herb. Anyways it was rather thin but dense so it wasn't very good at moping up the curry. The only redeeming point was the slightly crisp surface

Nothing beats a weekday night hanging out with friends over a bubbling hot steamboat! Hence, hearing many good reviews on the place from the Burpple tastemakers, I had to bring my friends down to LongQing when we were searching for a spot to have a casual get-together. And of course priding themselves in various soup bases that are free of MSG, we were looking forward to LongQing鈥檚 soup bases that are cooked for hours on end. Having a yuan yang with the classic Wild Mushroom and Signature Broth ($20/ mix of two soup bases), the former was definitely my favourite with a tinge of herb detected in each spoonful - light and 鈥渕ushroomy鈥. Offering fresh and quality ingredients, you can choose from the sets or have them ala carte. For us, we ordered the Vegetable Platter, tender Premium U.S Short Rib ($22), succulent Pork Belly ($12), Pork Collar and Luncheon Meat ($6.80). The short rib being my pick. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at LongQing and found them to be an excellent alternative to other steamboat restaurants that provide heavier as well as overly seasoned items.

The good folks at nissim hill bakery really know how to do a chilli crab pasta ($23 for a full size portion). 鈥 The pasta was cooked well with just the right amount of bite and was generously served with a copious amount fresh crab meat. The chili sauce was flavorful and came with a pretty spicy kick. 鈥 I would've ideally preferred the pasta to be a tagliatelle or fettuccine to allow a greater surface area for the sauce but it's still something I would order again when I next visit. 鈥 Thanks @burpple for the invite and @nassimhillbakery for the hospitality!!

If there's one thing that would keep me returning back to @nassimhillbakery it's their waffles. 鈥 Crispy yet chewy, fluffy yet substantial, these are a great way to end any meal. Chili Crab Pasta. 鈥OSTED TASTING鈥 The fusion of local flavours in pastas is not uncommon but what's a real good chili crab pasta? Here's the answer. Tangy, spicy chili crab sauce drenched over a huge portion of spaghetti without overpowering flavour despite its thick creamy texture. I would have liked it even better if it was linguine, for a better blend with the chili crab sauce. The addition of chili padi surely packed a punch. And look at those white succulent crab meat, to describe them as "jumbo lumps" on their menu, it's really not exaggerating at all. Available in half/full portion ($16/$23). Green Curry Lychee Duck Linguine from Five Marbles Craft Beer Restaurant (Rendezvous Hotel, Dhoby Ghaut). The assertively-flavoured, lusciously thick green curry coated every inch of the linguine with relish and made the proceedings a largely satisfying affair, faltering only in terms of the spiciness involved, with the initial promise of a volcanic eruption from the first mouthful turning out to be more of an aerosol spritz. 3.9/5

NEW MENU: Grilled Skewers Of Yumminess So while slurping (and getting high 馃槅) on our bowls of Ebi Miso Ramen with Fat-washed Yamazaki Whisky, this suddenly arrived. Needless to say, we were all too happy to have a complimentary taste of the upcoming NEW MENU of @jimotoyasg's grilled items - thanks @stonecoldrockstar There's absolutely nothing to fault here as each item on this plate of Yakimono Moriawase was shiok-ly seasoned, evenly grilled and tasted really fresh. After chatting more with Sean (the owner of the restaurant), I learned it's because they avoid using frozen ingredients and that includes the chicken wings. This was great news because trust me, the difference is obviously tastier. I enjoyed all the skewers but if I had to pick my top 3, then it's got to be the crispy chicken skin, the shiso peppers and the amazingly juicy stuffed shiitake mushrooms. They're totally bomb-ilicious!! This new menu should be available in 2 to 3 weeks' time, but it isn't the only upcoming change at Jimoto Ya. They will also be undergoing a mini spatial transformation to offer customers more choice in dining experience. But don't worry, it's still business as usual all the way.

Limited Edition: Ebi Miso Ramen + 20ml of Fat-washed Yamazaki Whisky ($28) The $28 limited edition bowl of Ebi Miso Ramen with 20ml of Fat-washed Yamazaki Whisky is worth every damn cent! I was told a lot of R&D went into this to get the balance of ebi (prawn) oil and Yamazaki whisky calibrated for supreme oishii-ness. Let me assure you, it's really paid off. When the ramen arrives, you're suppose start by sipping some of the broth in order for your tastebuds to register the original taste of the ebi miso. Only after that do you pour in the cup containing the specially-prepared ebi-intensified Yamazaki whisky. In an instant, you can tell how much the umami prawn note is heightened, and as you slurp up the noodles and soup, there is this continuous presence of the whisky's seductive aroma and taste. It's not unlike being enveloped by a warm cloud of the alcohol. Mmmmmm.... Naturally, something so captivating takes extra effort and time to prepare. Which explains why there are only 30 bowls of this ramen a day. To ensure you don't miss out, you'll need to book on www.saucy.sg By the way, the owner of Jimoto Ya shared that his plan is to serve this until the end of this year but it isn't a sure thing. So I recommend you visit sooner rather than later if you are keen to taste this.

Chicken Karaage from Jimoto-Ya, situated along Nankin Row near China Square Central. The chicken flesh was tender as can be but its skin, supposedly because of a high-tech Japanese contraption used in the frying process, possessed an unusual, magnificently explosive crunch which generated in-mouth noise louder than a "Return Our CPF" protester at Hong Lim Park. 3.8/5 鉅 This was a hosted meal, courtesy of Jimoto-Ya.

Japanese Surf Clam Salad $12 I think it might be the first time I've actually had Japanese surf clam. Not unlike abalone, it's pleasantly chewy and tastes somewhat similar. The potato salad is smashing 鈥 crushed potatoes topped with sea asparagus and enlivened by pommery mustard, pickles and shallots. Taste: 3.5/5

GastroSmiths Never Fails I first saw this bowl of Fisherman's Mee Sua ($26) on a friend's Instagram story and I knew I had to have it. It was sure worth the long wait, before I finally had time to go down to GastroSmiths. Umami is the theme of the dish and every single mouthful tasted like the sea! I loved how kimchi was used to cut through the umami flavours and add a spicy sourish touch to the dish. This was so good, my friend finished my soup even after wiping clean his bowl of donburi 馃槀.

Great Bowl Too many good flavours in a bowl, yet they all compliment each other very well. I'm not even sure where to start to describe this bowl of Hokubee Ribeye Don ($26). The juicy well-seared ribeye steak? The lovely mix of toppings that went so damn well with the rice? Or the perfectly cooked grains? Let's just say, one can definitely lick this bowl dry.

Dogs are welcome indoors, but you will have to keep yours on a leash beside you. The owner is likely to come by with lots of cuddles though! He's also known to host dress-up events for fur babies. The upcoming Pasta J Dog Halloween Party is on 29 October, with a best dressed competition for owners and their dogs who show up in costume. Food wise, Pasta J does excellent pastas. Get your meat on with the Caramel Carnivore ($16.90). Burpple Tastemaker Kelly Wong loves how the pasta is slicked with smoky, caramelised onions and tossed with marrow, meat and cartilage. Muddy Mushroom Soup Served in a 鈽曪笍 Chanced upon this place cause we saw a pawkid walked out and there was another one inside 馃槏 The owner (i suppose) is very confident with what's served... 馃捀5.90+ Verdict: 馃槉 1st time having shredded meat in my mushroom soup. For Unapologetically Great Steak What is cheekily named the Break-Up Steak ($42.90, because it is good enough to replace your partner...), is one of the stars here at this Upper Thomson restaurant. Cooked to a smoky char, the hearty piece of ribeye (250g) proves to be tender, juicy and everything a good steak should be. It is served sans sauce, so you can taste all its natural beefiness, elevated by a secret housemade rub concocted by chef-owner John. The sides are equally delicious 鈥 sweet, caramelised carrots, earthy mushrooms and creamy, comforting mash nicely round up a perfect meal. If you fancy a sweet ending, order the Ultimate Kaya Toast ($6.50), which features rich and silky homemade kaya sandwiched between wafer-thin slices of bread. This might look like an unassuming plate of pasta, but the Caramel Carnivore ($16.90) roared with its ferocity of flavours that exploded in our mouths. Onions slowly saut茅ed till they caramelized to give a sweet, burnt aroma that coated the pasta, tossed with marrow, scraps of meat and cartilage.
