Founded by Madam Ang Siew Yan in 1995, and having since handed over to nephew Zhang Ji Lin since 2006, this stall is famed for their rich creamy broth, probably the thickest around, formerly served in individual claypots.
.
The heady spice mix to create the broth comprises galangal, turmeric, fermented shrimp paste, lemongrass, bird's eye chili, and more, all slow cooked over 2 hours.
.
But the secret is the freshly squeezed coconut milk, lending a creamy texture that cannot be replicated without the painstaking effort. The result is a laksa broth that bursts with addictive savoury milky spicy flavour and freshness.
.
The silky smooth thick rice vermicelli noodles hold grainy sweet flavour, while the crisp bean sprouts lend vegetal sweet flavour.
.
The spongy tofu puffs burst with grainy savoury spicy flavour, the springy fish cake lends sweet savoury notes, and the juicy blood cockles burst with briny salty mineral flavour.
.
They've also added chewy shredded chicken, whose gentle meaty savoury sweet flavour lends good body to this comforting bowl. Fresh laksa leaves lend a beautiful aroma.

They are back with their claypoooots (only on weekdays)! But that said, the taste seems subpar than how it used to be
Still creamy but lacking on the spice punch (chili sauce is readily available tho) and gravy is a bit watered down
Queue can still get long, while service is tad bit slow

No longer served in claypot, but the laksa still pipping hot la.
Laksa Gravy was not thick, but was rich in flavour.
What made this stall unique is no longer.
No queues on a Saturday late lunch.
Awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand award from 2016-2019, Deport Road Zhen Shan Mei Laksa offers their laksa in 3 sizes - S(SGD4.50), M(SGD5.50), L(SGD6.50). Each bowl comes with tau pok, fish cake, shredded chicken, prawn, cockles & beansprouts.
Even though it’s still a pretty good bowl of laksa that’s on the lemak side, the standards definitely dropped when compared to what I’ve tasted back in 2017.😅
For the same price (I think?), I’d rather eat Janggut Laksa at Queensway Shopping Centre…😬

Photo is slightly dated as they do not serve in claypots anymore (noticed they actually removed the claypot from their signage). However, the laksa ($5.5 for medium) taste & look still remain the same for me - still has the right amount of heat and cream from the sauce. Though the sauce is thinner compared to other stalls, the flavor is still packed and not at all compromised.
BUUUT note to not come here super hungry as there’s always a loooong queue 😅
Having won their first Michelin Bib Gourmand back in 2015 up till 2019, Depot Road Zhen Shan Mei Claypot Laksa always sees snacking long queues whenever they open.
While their current presentation isn't cooked in a claypot (they even hid the word claypot on their signboard), the old flavour still stayed with the same creaminess and lemak-ness of the gravy.
Top it up with their sweet chilli to thicken and spice up the broth, this hearty bowl of Laksa is perfect for brunch / lunch.
P/S: best time to pop by is at 11am just as the store opens, so that you won't have to queue for too long 😉
