Bring in the celebratory mood with Butter Studio’s handmade cupcakes! Starting with, the fancy decorated cupcakes - Mermaid Fantasy, Magical Unicorn, and Over The Rainbow which were perfect for parties, delivered classic combos like strawberry white chocolate, red velvet, and vanilla buttermilk. On the other hand, served with a local twist, the Ondeh Ondeh, and Milo-tella were wonderfully distinct in flavours. The fragrant pandan cupcake with gula melaka drizzle and desiccated coconut flakes ranked a little higher for me than the crowd-pleasing milo buttercream frosted, Nutella-filled chocolate cupcake. However, the Red Velvet Toffee would be the one I reach out to with the home-cooked butterscotch center (sweet and caramel-y) and moist sponge - sweet yet not cloying. 

Overall, each was toothsome and decently fluffy.

The tarts are not to be missed as well. My first time having their tarts and I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the slightly crumbly shortcrust shells. The Lychee Pop Tart ($7.90) was a fun number with the little bubbles and I liked that the lychee flavour was pronounced yet not all that artificial. Similarly, the Summer Lemon Tart ($7.90) was a fruity pick with dollops of light coconut meringue. For something rich, my favourite was the Speculoos Cream Cheese Tart ($6.90). The spiced caramelised flavour of the cookie butter really hits the spot for me and the smooth cream cheese does balance it out a little. Lastly, the straight-up indulgent pastry was the Sea Salt Nutella Tart ($6.90) - luscious, nutty, and buttery. A must-order for lovers of the hazelnut spread.

And to sweeten the deal, #BurppleBeyond can save you $10 on selected cakes and ice creams. Pair the many bakes with scoops of creamy gelato ($5/ per scoop), think malty Milo, aromatic Pistachio (+$1, premium scoop), and light-tasting Vanilla.

Compared to the classic Lemon Meringue Tarts out in the market, this one was very much less sour overall and friendlier for the sweet tooth’s. The lemon filling was milder, making it palatable for children - I can see my younger cousin enjoying this even though he may not like lemon very much!

The bakery also sells other flavoured tarts such as (from left of picture): Speculoos Cream Cheese ($6.90), Sea Salt Nutella ($6.90), and Lychee Pop Tart ($7.90). They taste exactly like their names.

Butter Studio is located on the first floor of Bugis Junction, making it a convenient stop for sweet cravings. The staff are as sweet as their desserts too! There are not many dessert shops that are Halal certified, so this shop usually comes to mind whenever I’m looking for dessert options with my Muslim friends.

[INVITED TASTING] Had a chance to try out the different desserts Butter Studio had to offer and here are some mentions:

Sea Salt Nutella Tart ($6.90): If you love your nutella, this is one to try. The nutella filling is so rich with the hazelnut chocolate flavours and what that impressed me was the tart pastry itself, as it was not too hard nor crumbly. Glad that it wasn't soft or soggy too! Definitely a fresh tart.

Summer Lemon with Coconut Meringue Tart ($7.90): not too sweet and yet refreshing, I love the citrus flavours coming through this one. The coconut flavours are subtle and not overpowering, complementing the lemon flavours well!

Red Velvet Cupcake ($3.90): really can't go wrong with this one, as its their all time signature. Soft cake with good cream cheese frosting. May get abit sweet towards the end!

Pistachio Gelato ($6): Glad that it's smooth and not grainy at all, with the nutty flavours of the pistachio coming in moderately strong. This is a creamier version but I believe the pistachio flavour can be stronger!

If you’re a fan of thick, dense milkshakes - look no further. Butter Studio makes their shakes from their very own ice cream, so you feel like you’re slurping their ice cream up in liquid form. Perfect if you're craving for the taste of ice cream but are too lazy to use your hands to scoop it into your mouth (wait I’m not the only one right?).

Choose from 3 flavours - Speculoos Crunch, Berry Lychee or Midnight Chocolate. I personally found the Speculoos Crunch very sweet but it’s probably great for children and those with very sweet tooth's. I preferred the Berry Lychee - I couldn’t really taste the lychee but I liked the milkiness and creaminess of the ice cream base paired with the fruity taste of berries (tasted primarily strawberry). The milkshakes were smooth and thick - their consistencies didn’t change even after they were left out for a considerable amount of time, which is a great plus point.

🍓 Berries Lychee Milkshake ($8.90) (7.8/10)
The lychee aspect made the milkshake fruity and refreshing. Its pretty thick and satisfying!

🥛 Speculoos Milkshake ($8.90) (7.6/10)
Really really rich, thick and very sweet. Its the kind of drink youd get on cheat day, it gets jelak pretty quickly but it makes for a great sharing drink. Speculoos lovers will definitely enjoy this, tho it may be a bit too saccharine for some.
