Serving for over 50 years, the brothers helming this stall used to make everything in-house, but have recently switched to a supplier, albeit one that still mills rice to make the cakes (instead of using rice flour).
.
Their version has slightly larger, chunky cubes of carrot cake, which has a nice springy soft moist texture.
.
Their black has a pronounced savoury salty eggy flavour which was alright but lacking that sweet edge. But I was more excited by their white, with its smoky savoury eggy sweet flavour, yum. Nice char to the edges too.

Not my first time. Carrot cake is just different when not factory made. That makes this so appealing. It also had a chaotic quality. First of all, I don't know is this black or white lol. Secondly, the sizes of the cake were totally random. But overall, the sweet and savoury, the natural kueh, the fluffy egg made this enjoyable.

Carrot cake.

Black Carrot Cake $4. There’s 3 sizes, $3, $4 and $5, and they have both white and black version, our favourite from this stall is their black version! Their black sauce is sweet and yet not too sweet for our liking, generous portion of eggs fried together with carrot cake and chai poh. We love this version that’s chunky in size and fried to crispy edges with 💯! This is going to our favourite black carrot cake list, it’s FANTASTIC!! .

Good sized chunky carrot cake fried with fish sauce and chye poh, this is one dish not to be missed. Available in black (sweet soy sauce) or white, it’s fried to a slight crisp at the edges, and it’s a flavor bomb!

Price: $3/$4/$5

Bukit Merah View Carrot Cake is one of the last places in Singapore that mill their own rice before cooking it with white radish. A tedious process but their carrot cake definitely taste more old-school as a result. The Carrot Cake is fried by 2 brothers in shifts, one in the morning and the other in the evening. I ate my Black Carrot Cake [$4] in the morning, having generous portions of egg, carrot cake and a little chye poh.

The carrot cake was well cooked, soft but not mushy. The egg was at times crispy but nevertheless tasty. And the chye poh I could only wish there was more. As for the black sauce, the owner added it at the end instead of frying it together with the carrot cake. It was not mixed very evenly but I guess that’s part of how this dish is made in the old-fashioned way.

Overall it was a good try for a traditional dish when I passed by 115 Bukit Merah View Hawker Center. -Foodier✌🏻
