Serving since 1979, this heritage brand has shifted several times of the years, each time being closely associated with their location - first in Bugis, then in Thomson Longhouse, and now in Balestier.
.
Folks speak well of their chicken, both poached and roasted versions, for its moist tender satisfying chew, and meaty savoury sweet salty flavour as it picks up the gravy.
.
The rice is fluffy and not overly oily, yet carries the aroma of the chicken fats infused within, giving it a lovely grainy savoury sweet flavour.
.
The chili with its bright sour spicy kick, plays a good part.

Comes with the drumstick/thigh, a side (actually a mountain) of bean sprouts, soup and rice. Definitely a good plate of chicken rice, though not my favourite. Chicken was tender and tasty, but the rice had a texture that I didn’t love, being slightly softer than I like.
Loved the bean sprouts in that light, savoury sesame sauce! Very value for money set.
I know I had already written a review last year on Fa Cai Yu Sheng sold by Chuen Chuen at Balestier Market, but this is one of the rare occasions that I actually dined in at Balestier Market and had this as well.
So for S$18.00 (small portion), they had given a pretty generous amount of food. The carrot strings are short which is actually good for tossing and serving. Once again, it is their plum sauce that made the taste of the Fa Cai Yu Sheng so on point.
This time round, they also replaced the baby abalones with sliced abalones. I guess I will still come back for more, if not I will have to wait for another year before I can eat this again.
used to be at the old long hse and has shifted over here to balestier food centre. loving that crystal chicken feet and the ginger sauce that no one else has. so satisfying 😋😋😋
津津雞飯 must be proud of its quality to set it's new location at Balestier Hawker Centre right next to the ever-popular 文東記 (Boon Tong Kee). Don't intend to compare (as I never tried roast chicken at BTK). But this certain one of the best I had from a hawker/coffee shop.
Smooth n gluey chicken porridge paired perfectly with yusheng. My all times fav comfort food.
