Traditional charcoal-grilled kaya butter toast set that comes with soft-boiled eggs and Nanyang coffee in a nostalgic and old-school coffee shop.

I love the atmosphere here where it feels like I'm being teleported back to the 1980s with marble tables and a very old-school setting that is pretty hard to find these days. Toasts were the fluffy (not crispy) type with butter and not too sweet kaya. The eggs were huge and done to perfection. The service is a little slow but understandable with a very old uncle managing everything on his own. Overall it’s worth the experience if you are nearby and don’t mind the long wait 》$5.20 (incl Milo)

Charcoal toast bread, half-boiled egg, and a cup of coffee or tea. Perfect Breakfast 👌🏻

Both toast sets with kopi by the side and soft boiled eggs. Beyond the very nostalgic atmosphere people talk about - the old, (rather stuffy) coffeeshop here surprised me with its soft and fluffy toast. While the butter sugar was just decent, the kaya butter combination worked much better in my favour, with the sweet kaya lathered on the white toast and topped with a slice of almost, melted, salted butter. The eggs that came with the set were also beautifully done (not pictured), and the coffee was also rich and strong.

Above average toasts and above average eggs but might not wait 1h again for it 😬

💸 Kaya Butter Toast (2 slices): $1.40
💸 Soft-boiled Eggs (2 eggs): $1.40

Weekend calls for a good local breakfast at Heap Seng Leong with the family! Their charcoal-grilled toast is pretty good, soft and crispy🍞. The cold butter was also a pretty thick slab, making it super satisfying to bite into🧈. However we felt that their kaya is not as fragrant, and the amount given could be more as well🥹! Special shout-out to their soft-boiled eggs though🥚, they were huge and fresh, super yumz!

Starts your day with a cup of aromatic black coffee that is topped off with a slab of butter. The marriage of Kopi and butter was heavenly, giving a smooth texture. Personally, I prefer the Kopi O Butter or Kopi O Gu You as the taste was more outstanding without the milk.

Unlike most coffee shops in Singapore, their bread is toasted on a charcoal fire, thereafter, they will process it by scraping away the black parts and spreading the traditional canned kaya over it. Lastly, they will include a slice of butter within.

The eggs are only prepared upon ordering, thus there is a wait of about 6-8 minutes. These half-boiled eggs were already cracked for customers and therefore we do not have to do it by ourselves. Enjoy them with some dashes of pepper and dark soya sauce.

If you want to have a feel of enjoying some traditional breakfast in old settings, a visit to Heap Seng Leong will definitely give you that experience.
