Behind the chunks of crayfish was bee hoon soaked in a thin-curry gravy which reminded me of a spicier laksa base. I couldn’t finish the gravy, it was tasty but I felt queasy after a few spoonfuls.

This is the type of dish that would require some Chinese tea to ‘wash off’. I would love to have this again, but think the weakest link was the beehoon, somehow not as silky and think that I might have preferred.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken is drizzled with a thick, savoury sauce that is extremely creamy.

Small $30. Includes crayfish, prawns, clams and fish. A #zichar place (with aircon area, but best to book as it's not very big. Al fresco area probably good on cooling nights). Located not far from Rochor original soya bean. 15% off on your birthday month - bring your ID.

Located across Rochor Beancurd in Selegie, this hidden zi char gem may be slightly pricier than others, but well worth it for a birthday celebration with a small group of friends. Make reservations in advance should you want to sit indoors, otherwise be prepared to sit alfresco. Meat lovers will love the fall-off-the-bone tender Drunken XL Spare Ribs ($23 for five) that comes in a variety of sauces like the finger-licking good Butter Champagne flavour. We like how the restaurant provides disposable gloves to make the process of eating the ribs easy and fuss-free! Then, tuck into the Wok-Fried XL Crabs ($70 per kg) and opt for the Indo Curry sauce. Burpple Tastemaker Geraldine Tay notes that unlike other curries where the consistency may be slightly thicker, the curry's consistency at Big Lazy Chop is thinner and more soup-like — great for slurping it up without feeling jelat!

I have soft spot for fresh lala. This lala is stir fried with fermented bean. Its sweetness from the clam and the beans are overwhelming 👍🏻 4/5
