Normally Bengawan Solo is well known for its dessert, it's quite intriquing to find that they also have Nasi Lemak up for sale. Selling at $2.50 per packet, we think It is the most affordable Nasil Lemak in SG. We always love a good nasi lemak whether it is from the premium restaurants or the highstreet hawker stalls. The 3 components we saw in this banana leaf-wrapped style are the essentials: peanuts & anchovies, chilli and fried kuhning fish. πŸ₯œπŸŒΆπŸŸ Bengawan Solo has done a great job with its sweet & spicy chilli & its crispy anchovi. Rice has good texture although not yet achieving the ideal coconut rice. Crispy anchovies and peanuts are crunchy & bountiful. The fried fish might not be crispy but you got crispy anchovies tagging along. These 3 masketeer ingredients will bring us back to be a regular here.

Getuk Getuk (a dessert made with cassava/tapioca with grated coconut toppings ) VS. Getuk Ubi (with "sweeter" coconut toppings - in orange) are so addictive and one of our top lists in Bengawan Solo.

These 2 types of Getuks are available only in some outlets.

🍰 Pandan Cheese Roll
πŸ“Bengawan Solo
πŸ“Œ multiple outlets
πŸ’° $1.70

When I think about common flavour combinations with pandan, I wouldn't think of cheese. The idea of putting cheese together with pandan cake is pretty strange, but I decided to give it a try anyway! At $1.70 for a relatively small and thin slice, this cake is slightly pricey while still remaining relatively affordable.

The pandan cake is really dense and soft with a light pandan fragrance. The cheese filling has kind of a flaky texture. Initially I was expecting it to taste like regular creamy cream cheese, but the filling is actually buttercream with bits of shredded cheese inside. Really odd to be honest, having shredded, flaky savoury cheese paired with a strong buttery sweet cream. I wasn't really a big fan of this combo.

Generally a really unique cake but I wouldn't get it again. It's a pretty unorthodox pairing and maybe you'll enjoy it but personally I'd give it a pass.

⭐ Rating: 7.4/10 cheese creams

Day 15: On day 13, we posted steamed Kueh Lapis with colorful layers. The original one looks somber with substance and slightly more expensive than the steamed one. Do we prefer it? β€˜No’. Do we need to pay more? β€˜Yes’
β€˜Welcome to the Layer Cake son!β€™πŸ˜†

Day 14: β€œBeen in plenty of sticky situations in life, we still want all in it!” 😜 Sticky Sagu with middle layer implies gula Melaka. We try to be precise in term of outlet location for the Kueh we get from Bengawan Solo as it seems not all outlets store the same type of Kuehs. Junction 8 is one of our favorite stall where you can get your hand on this yummy treat. 🀘
